Father of dead Marine wants to thank bush for killing his only son.
Edited on Thu Jan-11-07 03:59 PM by HarveyBrooks
Dave Christoff from Rossford lost his one and only son -- Dave, Jr., a Marine -- last may in Al Anbar province in Iraq. He hopes to one day have a face-to-face meeting with President Bush. "I'd like to meet the man and shake his hand and tell him, 'Thank you,'" said Chrisoff.

Despite losing his son, Dave says the country should support its Commander-in-Chief. "We need to get behind him," said Christoff, "You might not be real happy about it, Mr. Kennedy, but you need to get behind our president."

Ya know...if I didnt know better I'd swear some of our friends on the right are brainwashed.

2. "For democracy, any father would give his only begotten son."
At least, that was the line uttered in the movie Johnny Got His Gun.

3. People Will Believe Whatever Helps Them Sleep At Night...
If he can live with himself, then that's fine.

I would not feel the same if a loved one of mine had died for a LIE, but that's just me.

The LAST thing I'd want to do is shake the King's hand.

20. I agree
I think some people will project whatever rationale is offered to them for their child's death, because to consider the awful truth will be simply unthinkable.

28. Yes, agreed, he must think that way for his own sanity
I have no problem with it. If he thought otherwise it would probably tear him to shreds.

4. Pity
I feel pity for this man. Please don't take this opportunity to insult a man who lost his only son. The Right did that to Cindy and it was shameful. Let the man grieve, and let him have his beliefs. He has just as much right to his beliefs as Cindy has to hers. And we have no right to insult him for speaking his mind.

7. Does your last sentence only apply to those who have lost children
in Iraq? I'm a veteran, spoke my mind loud and clear opposing the war back in late 02, early 03 and was insulted out the wazoo by flag waving patriotic chickenhawks. I guess they had the right. Such experiences stay with a person.

12. I didn't post it to insult the man...
and of course he is entitled to his beliefs.
It just kind of shocked me.
Some of these peoples blind allegiance to bush reminds me of the way some Nazi's idolized Hitler.

29. OK
I guess my point was that I was pissed at the Right when they called Cindy a moonbat and crazy. So I think we owe it to this gentleman to show the same respect that we would expect. He paid the ultimate price too. So to compare him to a Nazi is out of line.

5. "Get behind the President"
Does that apply for all administrations Mr Christoff? Get behind the president and do what? Support more insane policies that will lead to more parents burying their children? I'll pass Mr Christoff. Obviously your son means more to me then to you and I've never met him.

6. It may be the only way for him to
deal with his son's death. Admitting his life was lost in vain, lost for a lie might be too much to bear right now.

9. "You need to get behind our president". Is THAT what democracy is?
Is this the system of government that we are "spreading" around the world, one in which you blindly "have" to get behind the President even if he is a dry-drunk monkey? I think not.

11. I remember those folks from the Vietnam days
They don't want their loss to be 'in vain'. They want to be able to look back and think, "well, at least he died for something." I'm sorry for your loss, sir, but that is not an excuse to continue a failed policy to continue to kill more people for no reason whatsoever.

This guy is not unique. Lot of parents out there who would be proud to let one of their kids die for Dimbulb. And they look so normal too.

15. My thoughts and prayers are with this family
I have respect for those that think the war is a good idea. I have little or no respect for those that thought that the war was a bad idea, and then supported it publicly because they were too scared to oppose Bush and appear unpatriotic.

Ha, I thought that this photo showed the grieving father as he appeared to be sad and I thought he reminds me of someone else.
Good quote. Only a few days ago, one of his songs from the early 90s was played again ("Into the Great Wide Open")...he had some really beautiful songs.

19. the only way some family members can justify the death of their loved ones
is to try and believe that it was for a noble cause rather than because their commander in chief lied to get this country involved in an illegal and unworthy war.

21. Why doesn't he just throw himself underneath Bush's limousine?
like worshippers in India used to throw themselves under a giant cart carrying Krishna's image? I'm sure it would be very fulfilling to him.

22. I just can't imagine someone preferring to have a dead son
and a handful of medals to having a live son and possibly a daughter-in-law and grandchildren and great-grandchildren for the rest of one's life. Instead of happy family gatherings, they'll have old faded photographs and a bunch of stuff in a drawer.

It boggles the mind...

Actually, I feel for the guy. He doesn't want to admit that his son died for British Petroleum, Exxon, Halliburton and PNAC.

Sorry for his loss, but did he vote for Bush twice? He can stand behind the King for all eternity for all I care. A fool is a fool is a fool. Don't matter what side of the political fence they fall on.

25. He and Brittney Spears
:eyes:

Was this the big, gruff looking bald dude on Cabal News Network this morning, with the Rubenesque woman in the giant pink turtleneck? Those people were scary. They lost their only son and essentially built a shrine to him in their living room...and couldn't heap enough praise on Commander Chimp. How much Kool Aid do you have to drink to still think we're at war to "protect our freedoms?"
