Chain Gets Death Threats After Pizza For Pesos Promotion
DENVER -- A pizza chain has been hit with death threats and hate mail after offering to accept Mexican pesos, becoming another flashpoint in the nation's debate over immigrants.

"This is the United States of America, not the United States of Mexico," one e-mail read. "Quit catering to the damn illegal Mexicans," demanded another.

Dallas-based Pizza Patron said it was not trying to inject itself into a larger political debate about illegal immigration when it posted signs this week saying "Aceptamos pesos" -- or "We accept pesos" -- at its 59 stores across Texas, Colorado, Arizona, Nevada and California

5. When I was in Russia last year I encountered the interesting phenomenon
Edited on Thu Jan-11-07 07:28 PM by Der Blaue Engel
of having U.S. dollars rejected for trading in for rubles at the bank, because they weren't "new" enough. Dollars must be newly minted and without wrinkles or they don't think they're any good.

Personally, I loved using rubles. You sure as heck can't get anything for a kopek in the States. :D

edited for multiple typos :eyes:

2. That may be what some right winger talk show host was talking about in San Diego on Monday.
He was saying something about racism and a pizza place doing something for Mexicans. I don't know all of it because I can't stand more than a few minutes of his shit. His name is Rick Roberts. He was telling everyone to call the pizza place when it opens and complain.

3. Guy was on CNN
He said the pizza stores were near Mexico. He said that a lot of the people who come into this country still have pesos and he is accepting them. Can't you spend your dollars in some places in Mexico. What is wrong with this.

7. I live not too far from Nogales
I always spend American dollars when I cross the border into Nogales, Sonora, Mexico. I've also gone to Puerto Penasco (Rocky Point) Mexico and have never had to trade my American dollars ofr Pesos in order to purchase anything there.

I don't understand what the problem people have with someone allowing customers to pay in pesos. The business will take those pesos and exchange it for dollars at the current exchange rate. Big deal.

8. I was all the way down in Michouacan, and some proprietors were surprised that I had
mexican dollars. They would have been more than happy to take American dollars. I don't see the big deal either, except as an extension of the "invasion" rhetoric.
