Those who continue to support Joe Lieberman should be ashamed!
Edited on Fri Jan-12-07 07:51 AM by trumad
The Katrina disaster is simply one of the worst debacles in the history of our country and this clown thinks that the Bush Admin should not be accountable for it.

Here's a quote from Joe:

But the truth is, after much reflection, my feelings of disappointment and anger have not dissipated. Except now these feelings have gone beyond my personal dismay to a larger, graver sense of loss for our country, a reckoning of the damage that the President's conduct has done to the proud legacy of his presidency, and ultimately an accounting of the impact of his actions on our democracy and its moral foundations.

Whoops---sorry... that's a quote from Holy Joe about Clinton and MonicaGate.

Here's Joe today:

Sen. Joe Lieberman, the only Democrat to endorse President Bush’s new plan for Iraq, has quietly backed away from his pre-election demands that the White House turn over potentially embarrassing documents relating to its handling of the Hurricane Katrina disaster in New Orleans.

Lieberman’s reversal underscores the new role that he is seeking to play in the Senate as the leading apostle of bipartisanship, especially on national-security issues. On Wednesday night, Bush conspicuously cited Lieberman’s advice as being the inspiration for creating a new “bipartisan working group” on Capitol Hill that he said will “help us come together across party lines to win the war on terror.”

1. "to win the war on terror" - except the terror experienced
by those stuck on the Gulf Coast during Katrina - and the horror of those same folks as they *still* try to put the pieces of their life together. No - terrorized American citizens - abandoned by their goverment not important - no oversight over bushco needed...

Anyone still think Rove isn't pulling the strings now - given how much help Rove and company overtly gave to Joementum in his "independent" senate run?

2. I am rather proud of my joementum
I am more of a Kucinich kindof guy, but still.

I give joe props for believing in something.

What I am ashamed of is Dems that oppose the war, that have always opposes the war, yet were too cautious and cowardly to publicly oppose the war.

When many local elected Dems came out in support of Dean in 2003, they stated to me that they knew that Dean "got the war right". They actually liked other candidates (Edwards, Clark, and Joementum mostly), but knew that these other candidates got the war wrong.

It is one thing to really think that the best way to fight terrorism is with violence, I disagree, yet respect their flawed opinion.

I detest those that know their is a better way, yet cowardly go along with Bush cause they are afraid of looking unpatriotic.

peace

3. but the OP isn't about "surge" its about the decision to ditch the Katrina investigation
as chair of the Homeland Security Committee in the senate - investigations into the handling of the Katrina disaster falls to his committee. Now despite his rhetoric during his most recent campaign - he seems to be backing away from this line of inquiry/investigation. Guess he has convictions in how to fight terrorism overseas, but has none in understanding the response to nature-made terror of citizens across the Gulf Coast.

5. What the hell is wrong with Lieberman?
Bush must have some sort of mind-control power, or else the lefty Democrats in Washington are so obnoxious that people like Lieberman and Zell Miller are driven into W's arms.

Zell was a pretty progressive governor, for Georgia, but he went to D.C. and went slap nuts.

7. Beg to differ
I think you are wrong about Joe. His opinions are shaped by two things: first, his hidebound, blind to reality of multidimensionality and blame about Israel's situation; and second, by the fact that Karl Rove & Co. bought him his current six-year term in the sentence.

Joe's political stance at this point could best be described as "dancin' with the one who brung ya" as we say in Texas.

9. Joe absolutely believes in something
Joe.

And that's about as far as it goes.

He tried for the presidential nomination as a Dem.

He got laughed at.

So he's trying to carve out a space as a Republican, while maintaining his Dem. party membership.

What would be absolutely perfect is that the GOP realize once a traitor, always a traitor and turn their backs on him, too.

Then he can be exposed for what he is: a party of one.

15. Joe is a weathervane, blowing in the wind
First he was for firing Rumsfeld, then he was against it, then he was for it again.

After he loses the primary, he says, "Nobody wants to end the war more than me," and now he is one of the few supporting escalation, extension and expansion of the occupation.

First, he says that Democrats who criticize the president do so at their own peril, then says it's okay to criticize the war...

On a Monday, he gave a speech calling for us to get tough on Iraqi leaders. The next day, he met with the Prime Minister of Iraq and announced that we couldn't get tough with him.

I'm sure I could go on.

14. This is incentive for us to work even harder to pick up seats in the Senate
If we can pick up a few seats, we can tell Lieberman, "Good bye, adios, au revior, sayonara, zai jian, auf wiedersehen, arrivederci - and don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out."

And, I get the feeling they would do it.

17. EXACTLY!!!
Until now we have to play ball with him. There is too much at stake for us to let the republicans have him AND the majority. Sorry, I'm not giving up the judiciary committee to satify anyone who feels Lieberman needs to be booted out now.

16. Who says we support him - I just want him caucusing with us
Without the Senate or House Bush is running scared shitless. You give him back the senate and Bush will be his same cocky swaggering self knowing that the Senate will rubberstamp everything he needs AND he'll get to continue to stack our judicial benches with nut-job neo-cons.

Bitch all you like about Lieberman; hell I'll join in with you. But I still want him caucusing with us.

Once I read it fully I was  mad at Joementum. I am a fan of his (In NYS, most of our elected official supported him for Pres in 2004), but hate his politics.
