Between him and Neocon Brian on CSPAN, I think I'll switch back to MTV.

1. He's AEI's 'resident scholar'; thus his hawkish outlook. nt

7. There are 3 Kagens.
A father and 2 sons. This asshole is one of the sons. He's taught military history but I'm not clear he has any military background.

5. He's The "Author" Of The "Surge"...an AEI Tool
In my fantasy world, I see a big fire...the AEI burns down and the world rejoices! What a coven of chickenshits and hypocrites and Kagan is just one of many.

I'm getting real tired of this "think tank" that did most of boooshie's PR work over the past couple weeks...from filling the talk show with goons like Kagan and Danielle Pletka and others...flooding the hate radio shows and then staging that dog & pony show with McCain and Liebermann. These are assholes who have been 100% wrong on everything they do, but still are revered inside the beltway as "thinkers" and "experts".

Kagan is yet another wonk who never served in the military, never had a real job and lives off the right wing welfare system...writing this tripe to make a nice paycheck. This operation has to be discredited as its done so much to destroy this country.

9. A neocon who wrote the paper on the surge.
Just another coward who is for war, as long as he doesn't have to be the one fighting in the war.

10. His father is Donald Kagan, Sterling Professor Classics and History at Yale
University and author of "The Peloponnesian War" and probably the leading scholar on that war. I am reading it now, because I am interested in that war, fought 2500 years ago. It was the war that defeated the world's first democracy, Athens, because Athens overreached in its empire building (it lost its empire as well). There is interest in that war because of its parallels today. However, I haven't encountered that articulation by Kagan yet in the book (and I doubt if I will). Whatever we can say about his political views, or that of his son, we can't say he isn't an expert on this significant event in world history.

12. As your username certainly demonstrates!
What is your take on Alcibiades? Kagan seems to take issue with Thucydides on the question of Alcibiades being pro or con democracy versus an oligarchy.
