"It's bad policy to speculate on what you'll do if a plan fails when you're trying to make a plan work."

Condoleezza Rice, quoted in The Washington Post speaking at today's hearings before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee (special thanks to TPM Reader SW for the tip)

1. Quiet! You'll hurt the plan's feelings!
What was the quote about not catching Osama being a "success not yet achieved"?

4. With these two quotes, what the Bushist master "plan" is all becomes clear.

It's sort of Taoist, when you think about it: "God takes care of fools and children, so even though we're not children, there's no reason to fear."

3. I'm beginning to think
that their plan has similarities to "Plan 9 From Outer Space"-not only the worst scifi movie ever made but the worst movie ever made. If Plan 9 was the ninth plan the aliens had for taking over the Earth, what were the first 8 like?

12. The Legend Films DVD gives an account of plans 1-8...
...as an "extra." It also has film commentary by Mystery Science Theater's Mike Nelson.

Before the DVD was released, Legend Films had two promotional auctions for the right to be included in the restored film. We won the gravestone auction and as a result when Tor Johnson drops dead in the cemetery, the headstone next to him has our names on it.

6. It's blind indifference to not speculate for the possibility

of your plan not working.

7. Plan 9
Yep, if Bushies staffers wrote up Plan 9 they could get him to read it during the SOTU address!

Condi's reply is chilling, given that nothing they've done has ever worked, so it would be quite prudent to come up with contingencies.

I'm off to shop for torches and pitchforks now. That may be the only thing we citizens have to abort this madness.

Edited on Fri Jan-12-07 11:22 AM by VelmaD
Contingency planning is vital to the success of any plan. You have to envision as many potential points of failure as you can and plan how you'll respond to them to keep the overall plan on track. These people are utterly fucking useless.

9. Policy-making is not a positive-thinking exercise.
Edited on Fri Jan-12-07 11:29 AM by Marr
These people astound me with their cavalier attitudes, I swear. I regularly have the distinct displeasure to sit in on meetings for national ad campaigns, and let me tell you- even *those* operations have multiple alternate plans that can be put into play if things aren't proceeding optimally. And those are for fucking commercials.

I simply don't understand how these people can take such a careless, haphazard, "just-believe!" attitude with peoples' lives and our national reputation.

10. But the answer's so easy! You just sit back for 3 years and 10 months and say things like
"Stay the course" or "things are much better than what the media is telling you".

...neck deep in the shit.

They really can't seem to separate policy, planning and public relations, can they? They treat all of their initiatives first and foremost like marketing campaigns.
