Just called my senators and told them to IMPEACH
I'm from Texas, so I've got two Rethug senators--Hutchison and Cornyn. But I called them anyway, and told them that my whole family (six brothers and sisters) wanted them to introduce articles of impeachment for Bush and Cheney. Not sure how much good it's going to do, but it's done. We need to all write letters and make phone calls about this and just inundate their offices with calls for impeachment.

1. Senators don't impeach. You are barking up the wrong tree.

2. Even if they weren't two worthless GOP chuckleheads
There's not much point in calling your senators to introduce articles of impeachment since only the House of Reps can impeach.

3. Call your Congressman/woman. Impeachment happens in the House.

4. call your House Reps instead, also in your State Legislature
That's who can do something about impeachment.

10. Yes, I was wondering if we could all do this on a state level
ask our state representatives to initiate a procedure to impeach this man.

5. Hey I love calling Hutchison and Cornyn for
anything... You can tell they don't want to hear it... It is almost laughable if it wasn't so serious.

My Rep is John Culbertson, I call his office for impeachment and I get pretty much the same response...

6. Senators don't impeach
The House impeaches. Senators don't have anything to say about it until after impeachment.

7. Call your school board and ask that they require a class in US Government
We gotta get more understanding among the general population of how these things work ;)

Seems there are too many places where there is no requirement that schools present basic Civics & Government. It might be a good step to consider how people will be empowered by better understanding the processes of government and how important it is that citizens be involved.

8. I'm with you - I call my two Rethugs on issues, no matter what. No easy ride from
this Democrat - they have had it too easy for far too long. We need more people to see that their is a responsibility to ACT as citizns and DO IT - no matter what their answer is. CC the mmedia, too, when you send emails to your reps.

9. It can't hurt
Of course impeachment is initiated in the House, but letting your Senators know how you feel is certainly a valid tactic. Surely you don't think that Senators never talk to Representatives, especially those from their home state.

11. Just a suggestion, check with your local State Representative
if they could introduce an "article" to impeach the President, maybe this could be done on a state level.

20. There is no such provision
of course.

It's a stretch of Jefferson's Manual of Parliametary Practice, which is incorporated into the House Rules.

Basically, it says it's POSSIBLE for the legislature to act on impeachment based on a state legislature's request to do so. It's also possible for them NOT to act on it, or to just send it to committee.

Since the problem is not that no member will introduce articles (Cynthia McKinney has already done so), a state legislature requesting it wouldn't make any difference.

22. Yes
and as a symbolic gesture, it certainly can't hurt. But it will have no practical effect. The House of Representatives must still vote on articles of impeachment.

19. As the rest said...
The House can only impeach, then it goes to the senate for trial, in order to get a conviction, there MUST be 2/3 majority (which is a very long shot in realistic terms) to only remove the president from office. If you want him in jail, then the president must be removed before arrest.
