I have been subject to these Head-On commercials
Edited on Fri Jan-12-07 03:44 PM by StephenB48
for quite some time now, and it has to be the most irritating ad campaign EVER!!

It has dawned on me that, for a product which has almost no major distribution in this country that I have been able to discover, the massive advertising budget they must have would financially destroy any corporation attempting to market it in this fashion.

I say Little distribution, as I have looked in several cities in my state, in drug stores and in major box stores, and have found either no product whatsoever, or very small displays on the bottom shelves of the pain reliever aisles of these stores.

So, my question is this, and you can call me a "tin-foil-hat" type if you desire, but could this be a joint government-corporate type of public manipulation experiment to see just how much BS the American Public will stand for, and to test how this manipulation can possibly be used for future manipulations of the public mind-set?

I'll be offline fora few days, but look forward to any of your comments on this perplexing subject.

Sure, I know, there are many MANY more important subjects that can be discussed here, but this has really got me thinking!!

1. I haven't seen the ads myself, but from what I understand, there's
NOTHING to the product -- it's homeopathic, which means you don't have more than one part per billion or something of active ingredient. Which means it's damned cheap to produce. The company probably put 98% of its budget into advertising.

Like pet rocks: it sells because it sells.

8. That stuff is supposed to be 99.99% wax
The rest of it is some homeopathic preparation, which means it most likely doesn't work except through placebo effect.

2. OOPS! I tried to edit my OP but was denied this (don't know why?)
So forgive me my spelling errors, as the editing was to apply spell check to it.

7. Their ads sure are annoying, but I love thier product!
:sarcasm:

(In case I totally blew it, I was trying to paraphrase their annoying commercials about their annoying commercials.)

10. Notice how the "complainers" in the ads
say nothing whatsoever about the worth of this product which only "implies" it's usefulness in the relief of pain, but says either "I love this product" or "Your product is AMAZING"??!

Never is it ever said that the product relieves pain, but just that it is being sold?

Oh. well. No big whoop!! Maybe it IS just this years Pet Rock or Cabbage Patch goodie, but, with my cynicism meter set at 11 on a scale of 1 to 10, ..what can I say??

:wtf:

13. Jay Leno spoofed these commercials.
Edited on Fri Jan-12-07 03:57 PM by meldroc
He suggested what McDonalds' ads would be like if they used Head On's model...

"Big Mac! Apply directly to your ass!"
"Big Mac! Apply directly to your ass!"
"Big Mac! Apply directly to your ass!"

As for me, I wish the makers of that snake oil would apply this directly to their foreheads...

15. I think I'll start counting, as of now,
...the things that Leno has said that I find funny. So far, that's ONE.
