Is Iran preparing for an attack/invasion?
Are they having a troop buildup? Conscription?
Are they readying themselves?

21. Actually the Arabs
are buying front line modern jets right as we speak and Surface to surface missles form the US and the UK. The UAE, Qatar, and Kuwait fear Iran more than us. I need to dig up that article that showed the Defense spending of these three countries is up 20% in the last six months. All purchases are of US and UK near top of the line stuff.

IMHO the Arabs know the war is coming and are initially going to support the US over Iran. Their continued support depens on how that war would progress........

8. mika, correct .
In a terminal decent, a dive, the Sunburn reaches mach 4.5. None of our planes exceeds mach 2.5, F-16. Our defensive missiles are subsonic, the Harpoon & Sparrow.

22. I keep asking this question
If we know they have Sunburn missles and our carriers do not have to operate inside their envelope range, why would our carriers operate in their range???

Look he F-18's can operate far outside their range, we set up refuelers over Saudi arabia and ergo Sunburn missles are ineffective........we would not operate in an area where we would lose several carriers........People here never answer this question.......

5. Oh yeah...they are vigelant...
IRAN is not Iraq, Iran will not kneel and allow any forign invaders to desimate their society. The entire region has seen how the US and its allies works and they have learned (Unlike the US)from the Iraq disaster.

We have an incompetant, uneducated, overly confident, Colonialist adminestration; they know this, everyone knows this. They also are aware that the majority of the US does not support the actions of the occupiers of the Hill.

They don't have to prepare. They just have to surge over us. Like a tsunami.

On edit: added another 100,000 for our mercs.

14. And something even more disturbing
during their war with iraq as a last ditch effort they trained boys and men as suicide fodder. No weapons or very little weaponry. Their duty was to just roll over Iraqi defenses to cause confusion and terror. Rumors have it that 100's of thousand died. This is going to be fun for our troops in Iraq.

7. Iran is taking delivery of the TOR-m1 SAM missile system
Short range (25km) surface to air, from Russia.

http://rdanafox.blogspot.com/2007/01/iranian-missile-systems.html

Until recently Iran had relied on the Russian SAM-6 surface to air missile. With a range of 25 km it might be considered a short range or point defense system. The Russian SAM-11 missile looks like it can be fired from older SAM-6 launchers with little work to accommodate the SAM-11 missile. The SAM-6 was first developed by Russia, starting in 1958. By the 1973 yon Kippur war it was a proven system.

In August 1992 the NYT. reported "Iran is reportedly negotiating the purchase of SAM-5, SAM-11, and SAM-13 missiles from Russia and other Eastern European countries." Don't forget that the SAM-11 missile looks able to be fired from Iran's existing SAM-6 mobile launchers.

In the Summer of 2006 reports suggested that Iran was looking to buy the Tor-M1 Air defense system, This was confirmed in the first week of 2007 from Russian sources

The TOR-M1 surface-to-air missile system is a mobile, integrated air defense system, designed for operation at medium-, low- and very low –altitudes, against fixed/rotary wing aircraft, UAVs, guided missiles and precision weapon. The system is capable of operating in an intensive aerial jamming environment.

The Tor-M1 system has a range of 25 KM, making it a significant qualitative upgrade from the existing SAM-6 systems. The same source indicates the Iranians also are buying the longer range Pechora-2A.

http://rdanafox.blogspot.com/2007/01/iranian-missile-systems.html

...they seem to rely on mobile SAM systems as point defense. @ globalsecurity.com they have indicated that Iran may have deployed some of these SAMs in underground bunkers, with multiple entrance tunnels. This allows the mobile SAM launcher a hardened supply/maintenence point, from which the launcher can make its appearance from a number of tunnel entrance points. The Tor-M1 system needs only 10 seconds from target aquisition to launch.

Actually that 10 seconds while mobile, 3 seconds sitting still.

I have yet to blog on the S-300 system which looks to better than the Partiot system. I ran has 2 batteries of S-300 missles.

9.  Why don't we just arm the entire globe ?
Jesus , lets just do this and get it over with already , our military manufacturers will be thrilled with their profits , we can all have jobs building bombs and bombers , tanks and nukes . We can do away with fashion and all dress alike that is until we blow eachother off the planet once and for all .

They can store it all on discs so if any form of man ever crops up again just maybe they will learn something out of all our years of madness and war .

13. When I lived in Iran
in 1978 they did have conscription. I worked for the "military Industrial Complex" and we were selling the hell out of weapons and equipment. I'm sure a lot of the tanks and helicopters I saw lined up in the desert covered in tarps are still in working order.
Very educated and honorable people who loved everything western !!!

18. I still don't believe that Iran will be attacked by
the US or Israel. Why? I don't believe that the US or Israel are suicidal. A war with Iran would devastate Israel and destroy the US Economy. I believe that the RW Admins of the US and Israel will be toppled before this can happen. I feel that this a high stakes poker game that all sides are waging for power.
