Tim Robbins Calls On Bush & Cheney To Resign

Hollywood Star: Bush, Cheney Out

Berlin, Jan 11 (Prensa Latina) Hollywood star Tim Robbins, winner of an Oscar for supporting actor in “Mystic River”, called on President Bush and Vice President Richard Cheney to resign.

The 48-year-old actor and director criticized the Iraq war in declarations to the Berlin media, during the presentation of “Catch a Fire”, a film centered on South Africa´s apartheid and in which he stars.

In relation to Bush and Cheney, Robbins asserted they lied regarding the war and are now called to respond for its consequences.

He compared the lies of the governing duet to the scandal over Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky.

Why can a political trial be requested for a president lying about a sex story and not against another about information leading to war and the death of more than 100,000 people?, the pacifist artist wondered.

The US must withdraw from Iraq and compensate that population, he emphasized.

I hope it has. But the last time Tim and Susan spoke out there was a call for an all out boycott of their movies. This time he spoke out in Berlin, out of the country, remember the Dixie Chicks.

I respect him for speaking out. I wish a lot of other people did instead of taking sides on the Rossie vs Trump feud, commenting on the newest Britney/Lindsey crouch siting, or on the newest "American Idol". What does worry me is this being used once again to take the focus off of the bush idiots and what they are doing. The outcry about an "American" speaking out on foreign soil against an "American" president in war times is just the type of thing they have used in the past to do just that. Like we don't have a mass media that covers every thing that is said here and sends it overseas. Such idiots, but what a big ado they can make with their base over every little thing.

fear, or collusion, and we, the majority who opposed the war, were frightened by that silence and fearful that our country had gone nuts, and it seemed that no one with fame was willing to risk their fame, their privileged position and their money, for us, for the people with no voice, and for those who suffer most from this war, the Iraqis and our poor soldiers, commanded by a war criminal, thief and liar. I remember the fear.

And I remember, only Tim Robbins spoke up. This was long before the Dixie Chicks and Michael Moore. This was in the darkest hours that I have ever experienced in our country in my lifetime--before and during the invasion of Iraq. I know many people protested, but no one caused the stir that Tim Robbins did--under that dark "Iron Curtain" that seemed to hang over Hollywood-- because he had so much to lose. The Bushite who was running the Baseball Hall of Fame banned his beloved baseball movie, "Bull Durham," and canceled an event about it, calling Robbins "a danger."

He took hell for speaking out. God, he was brave! And then something happened--all sorts of baseball columnists came to Tim Robbins' defense. Baseball columnists! It renewed my faith in the American people, who are often called "sheeple" because of our obsession with sports--yet it was BASEBALL columnists, not the asshole political pundits of the war profiteering corporate news monopolies, who defended what America is all about--freedom of speech, diversity of opinion, criticizing the government.

I shall always, always be grateful for Tim Robbins' courage in speaking up at that time. It was such a great thing. It pulled me out of the darkness.

No one has more right to demand these criminals' resignations than he does. No one! Because he said it when it was not popular, when it was in fact reviled, and who knew that the consequences could be. I'm sure he got death threats. I'm sure he got drool spat at him from our rabid, frothing-at-the-mouth fascist radio yammmerers. I know from a speech he gave later that his kids were affected. He and his partner Susan Sarandon stood fast. They braved it all--for our sakes, for those who had no voice and no access. They are the best! They are the true America. They kept the fire of democracy burning almost single-handedly there for a while, at the most critical time.

I remember, Tim. And I never could find a way to send you a letter. But I'll say it now: thank you. I hope you read DU and catch this.

23. It's about time somebody called on them to resign

I remember the pundits and repugs screaming for Clinton to resign over Monica Lewinsky.

I thought it was ridiculous at the time. It involved sex between two consenting adults and thought nobody in their right mind would call that an impeachable offense.

Fast forward to BushCo's regime. They have lied to Congress about Iraqi war intelligence, outed Valerie Wilson, illegally wiretapped Americans, allowed New Orleans to drown and committed so many other criminal acts I can't list them all off the top of my head.

It's clear that BushCo is guilty of multiple offenses, any one of which is serious enough to warrant impeachment, yet all you hear from M$M about this is crickets chirping.
