4. This must have been prompted by the headline
on MSNBC that Ford once called Carter "a disaster". Whatever. Does anyone remember ONE speech or proposal from the Ford administration?

17. and if you read the article...
a couple of years later Ford told the interviewer Carter had a lot of good ideas and wasn't really that bad of President. So, of course, they went with the "disaster" quote.

7. Ford was a nice man, a mediocre president, AND he just died.
When * finally and mercifully dies there will inevitably be a brief flash of good feelings for him, and then the world will go back to thinking he's a piece of corn shit in the port-o-john of history. It's like when some non-jock high school kid dies, and girls who never so much as spoke to him/her suddenly get all weepy about The Loss. Folks are all down on Carter now because he dared to say something un-wonderful about Israel. He's still the best ex-president in living memory.

14. At nearly 3000 votes each, the percentages remain the same.
I had to take a while after reading the article; Fords evaluation of the other presidents seemed pretty well on, from his point of view.

Ford did not have a generous view of democrats and would sometimes voice it. He had just been beaten by Carter and was still pretty bitter. A couple years later, his view was much less jaundiced so his praise of Carter was high praise indeed, plus the experience was receding into history.

Carter was the better president, by far. He had the unenviable job of cleaning up after eight years of corrupt publiclowns and, goddess knows, that takes more than four years.

21. Since one's being beatified - while the other's weathering an AIPAC barrage...
... I'd say the "normalized" results would be:

61% Jimmy Carter

22% Gerald Ford

17% Ha! Trick question. Gerald Ford was that magazine guy Malcolm Ford's idiot son, who only ran for president. What do I win?

24. Carter: Good man, awful president - Ford: OK for a GOPer
And I agreed with Carter's decisions almost all the time. Policy wasn't the issue. He did a lousy job of managing his public persona. His biggest problem? He told the truth exactly as he saw it which is great on a human level, a terrible idea for managing the most visible job in the world.

Ford seemed principled and moderate at first, but then he took a big right turn once he decided to run for prez. Yet that wasn't his biggest mistake. Pardoning Nixon and his crooked posse was the last nail in his political coffin and rightly so. He denied us the justice we deserved. I'm glad he had a nice long life and wish his family well, but I'm glad Carter took over in '77. We needed a shot of good old-fashioned integrity after the Folly of Tricky Dick.

27. Check out Ford's assessments of other presidents:
http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/01/12/ford.presidents.ap/index.html

GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan (AP) -- In 25 years of interviews with his hometown paper that could only be released upon his death, former President Ford once called Jimmy Carter a "disaster" who ranked alongside Warren Harding, and said Ronald Reagan received far too much credit for ending the Cold War.

<snip>

The best president of his lifetime, Ford said, was a more moderate Republican: Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Harry Truman "would get very high marks" for his handling of foreign crises, Ford said. He also praised Richard Nixon as a foreign policy master, despite the Watergate scandal that drove him from office.

Ford considered John F. Kennedy overrated and Bill Clinton average. He admired George H.W. Bush's handling of the Persian Gulf War and had mixed opinions of Carter, who defeated Ford in 1976.

In 1981, Ford said: "I think Jimmy Carter would be very close to Warren G. Harding. I feel very strongly that Jimmy Carter was a disaster, particularly domestically and economically. I have said more than once that he was certainly the poorest president in my lifetime."

But two years later, he praised Carter's performance on the Panama Canal treaty, China and the Middle East. And in 1998, he said Carter "will be looked on as a better president than some comments we hear today."

He wasn't so crazy about JFK or Clinton, but praises Nixon and piece-of-shit #41?
At least he didn't slam Truman.

What a partisan tool.

They were both presidents facing different issues. Why pick these two in particular?

Did Carter die and I wasn't aware of it? That's the only reason to compare Ford and Carter that I can see.

47. Not good at all.
Carter was incredibly uninspiring as president. It was the wrong job for him. Building houses for the poor, international peace-mongering, election and human rights watches...that's where he shines.

And what could possibly be wrong with a person finding his niche? :)
