Guide Corp. today began closing its Monroe headlamp plant, nearly six months earlier than anticipated.

Larry Jackson, president of United Auto Workers Union Local 1977, confirmed that the remaining employees at the plant — around 200 — were told this morning about the company’s decision to close the plant early.

Guide has already laid off around 500 employees and the remaining employees were expected to continue working at the plant until June.
“There will be a small crew in there working, shipping out finished goods and there will be a maintenance crew disassembling equipment.”

Jackson said a plant closing agreement with the union hasn’t been reached.

He said the union would call a new conference when the agreement is reached, but could not give a time frame on when an agreement would be reached.

....this is just one of several plant closings here...plus we lost over 1500 local jobs from the State Farm Regional Headquarters closing...just a couple months before Katrina hit...ironically they used their 300,000+ square foot abandoned offices to house evacuees. :nopity:

I used to be in the pipe-fitters union...now electrical union...don't let them fill your minds with bullshit about UNIONS...We've got to stick together on this forever, (as fellow workers) no other hope, only UNIONS for ALL workers will provide a strong articulate workers voice...Love you bros & sis...Don't be swayed by the corporations & management, they are slick at swaying one, and the corporations are always, relentlessly, there pointing the finger at us workers for their not-enough-profits ..It's ALL about screwing the worker...read, inform yourself and hold tight!
