The Murray Waas piece has not one mention of Karl Rove and yet....
Edited on Sat Jan-13-07 08:49 AM by trumad
it's the most extensive piece that I've ever seen written on the Plame situation.

Some suggest that Rove cut a deal...but me-thinks that Waas would have mentioned that in his piece.

I've held back on deciding that the TruthOut piece by Jason Leopold was bullshit or not. Well--- no more.

I call Bullshit.

In addition--- Will Pitt has promised that he would soon write about this debacle at TruthOut and why he is no longer employed there.

I think it's time Will that you write this piece and put a nail the bullshit that still lingers over DU with regards to this Leopold cluster-fuck.

Murrays' piece.

1. The Leopold piece was bullshit from the git-go
It was, however, fun discussing the obvious bullshit with True Believers (TM) here. They were so delusional, so out of touch with reality, so dogmatic, so convinced, so able to spin their clearly failed arguments into self-persuasion. It was like watching members of a cult about to embark on a space flight.

3. I would bet that for some... it was also a bit of really passionate
bouts of wishful thinking.

10. True
I'm being too harsh. I suddenly had some weird body-memory of those debates and sprung into attack-mode (yes, I know, I'm usually in attack mode...;-))

Thanks for being the voice of reason and charitable readings, as usual. :hi:

4. Well I was a true believer in TruthOuts credibility...
I wasn't delusional.... I was a wait and see guy... I waited, I saw, I say Bullshit!

2. I miss too much these days...
I remember the Leopold article and the subsequent blow-ups. I didn't catch, however, that Will had parted company from TruthOut.

7. If Pitt parted company with TruthOut,
why is he still posting his essays there?

9. Good question...
Edited on Sat Jan-13-07 09:28 AM by trumad
I got a PM from him in mid-December stating that he had quit a couple of weeks earlier. Maybe he quit employment but he's still able to offer his work.

Don't know?

On edit: I checked TruthOut and he no longer is on the staff--- BUT he is a Contributing Writer.

6. I'm One Of Those Who Thinks Rove Made A Deal

Report: Rove Led Fitzgerald to Deleted E-Mails

<<<snip>>>
“If there was intentional deletion of e-mails in the Vice-President's office, someone is going to get charged as a result of it. As defendants, they will get reports of Rove's involvement. The Government will have to disclose whether any witnesses got leniency or avoided prosecution for their own misdeeds by providing information about others. At some point, the world will know.

My instincts tell me Rove will still have to plead to making a false statement to federal officials -- but he's now worked himself down to probation and no jail in exchange for his cooperation. Fitz may allow him to remain uncharged until at least Libby's trial is over, and then let him plead to an Information charging a single false statement count. As I said here,

If they reached a deal, an Indictment is not necessary. A defendant can waive the right to be charged by Indictment and plead to an Information which is filed by the prosecutor. It's an ordinary occurrence in my district.

If they reached a deal where his continued cooperation is necessary, he can work with the successive grand jury. Or the investigators. After the people he gave evidence against decide to plead or go to trial, that's when he will get an additional 5k benefit. If he works hard enough and brings results, Fitz could request a probation-eligible sentencing zone for him.

Bottom line: Whether Karl Rove gets charged or not, there's no way I can see that he didn't sing his heart out and incriminate others.” Cont…

8. I think Rove made a deal too
The upcoming Libby trial should be interesting to see the outcome of the 'deal'.

Does anyone think Cheney actually will testify? I think Cheney is going to become very ill with a heart problem and will resign.

18. I Don't Think Cheney Has A Choice
If he refuses to stand up for I Liar Libby, Libby's lawyers will do their best to convince Libby that it's every man for themselves. One of Libby's lawyers is from Baker Botts as in Jim Baker which to me adds adds an intriguing dimension to the situation.

Also, the prosecution was not calling Cheney, it's the defense. So a fake attack followed by a resignation (please God) wouldn't hurt Fitzg.'s case, just Libby.

19. Me thinks we don't know the full story and may never know....
Why Rove Testified For A Fifth Time

Appearing for a fifth time before the federal grand jury in the CIA leak case, White House adviser Karl Rove on Wednesday was questioned extensively about contradictions between his sworn testimony and that of Time magazine writer Matthew Cooper on the substance of their July 2003 conversation regarding then-agency operative Valerie Plame, according to attorneys involved in the case.

In several hours of testimony, Rove was again asked how he learned three years ago that Plame worked for the CIA, and the circumstances of how he relayed that information to Cooper, according to people familiar with his testimony.

Rove also testified to the grand jury that when he told Cooper that Plame worked at the agency, he was only passing along unverified gossip.

In contrast, Cooper has testified that Rove told him in a phone conversation on July 11, 2003, that Plame worked for the CIA and played a role in having the agency select her husband, former Ambassador Joseph C. Wilson, to make a fact-finding trip to Niger in 2002.

24. Put me the "KKKarl made a deal" club as well.
But I don't think you could take that liar at his word. And I am sure the Fitz had insurance so that criminal could not squirm away later. That case, Classified V Classified, or whatever it was, IMO has something to do with this case. And I bet you anything, we are going to find out, probably later than sooner. Then everyone can come back here and have their crow.

21. Murray Waas was very sick and hasn't written in a while. Good to see him
Edited on Sat Jan-13-07 09:55 AM by KoKo01
back. I don't know what he had but he was on a panel with Firedog Lake folks on C-Span last Spring I think, and mentioned he was ill and didn't look well. His site wasn't updated for a long time.

He used to write with Joe Conason. Hope he's doing okay now and will report more when Libby Trial starts (if Bushies don't manage to deep-six it.)

They say he is runing a tight investigation with no leaks, but how would we know unless Rove told us.

23. Don't know what to think of Fitzgerald or the truth of anything with Rove and
Leopold story...and why it's so "buttoned up." Leopold probably got some of it correct but might have been unknowly fed some disinformation so that his reporting would blow up and destroy credibility. Since he had problems at Salon it was sure to come out if he was fed some bad information or sent down a path of investigation that was meant to destroy his reputation and "Truth Out's" which was getting lots of attention.

The Bushies are unforgiving with anyone who crosses them. They hunt folks down to destroy their credibility. Makes one wonder of those who survive...just how have they managed to do it and what has it cost them in their reporting. Might mean many folks that we trust have had to "shade" an article or two...or perhaps they have good security or are well connected in some other way that makes them unreachable by the Crime Family.
