3. I've heard this story, the story about the tsunami that didn't happen,
an ice storm in OKC, and the Duke University case on the news this morning.

This story is great news for the families. I'm glad for them. Now...time for the media to actually cover some NEWS that matters to us. Where is the story on the attack on the Iranian diplomatic offices in Iraq? Where is the story on Bush squirreling away with Repuke leaders at Camp David, trying to bring them all back in line? Where is the story on Bush declaring that Congress no longer has any power over him in his 60 Minutes interview? Where is the story on everything that came out in the hearings over the past 2 days in Congress regarding this damn "surge"?

This is making me sick. No point in having a 24 hour news channel if you're not really going to give anyone any news.

4. usually I would agree with you 100%...
But this morning I am more than happy to watch hours of coverage of this joyous event.

Can you imagine? Losing a child like that and 4 years later, having him back? I don't even know these people, but I've had a silly grin on my face all morning. Two families have been re-united. :D

7. I think it's a wonderful news story. I loved the news conference with
the parents. It's amazing.

I think it's not so much about the coverage of this story, but it's what they choose to cover when they aren't reporting this story. The most important things in the news today, besides this story, are Duke University, the weather in OKC, and the tsunami that didn't happen? I have heard not one word today regarding Bush, Iraq, "surge", Congress or anything else.

I see this weekend's news coverage as a way to put distance between all the events of last week and Monday morning...hoping the American people will forget everything that has happened and providing cover for this administration.

8. Call me cynical, but you will be so sick of this story before it's over.
I think it's a miracle they found that boy who's been missing for years, both boys in fact, because we know what the usual result is.
Great story, but I just bet they beat it to death!

11. You are right
It's a lovely story but it will get 23 of the 24 hours of so called cable news.

10. I think it's a great thing for the families..
and, being from St. Louis, the name of the boy who'd been missing for 4 years was quite familiar to me, and it was something of a shock (a pleasant one) to hear his name on the news yesterday, reporting that he and Ownby had been found.

However, the constant media attention on stuff like this sickens me.

Sure, it's great, but once it's happened, it's time to go back to covering real news...not that real news is ever covered anymore. 90% of our local news is stupid, sentimental, sappy, human-interest BS. That's not news. That's pointless fluff. The only reason I ever watch local news is to get the traffic and weather reports.

12. If Brittney lost her kids and Trump found them, now THAT would be a story.
The lazy MSM could cover a story like THAT for a year -- and thus avoid covering any really significant news for at least that much longer.
