Winter Weather Check-In: Dallas About to Be Pummelled With Accumulating Ice >>
Raining at present, ice already coming into the Western parts of the Dallas metroplex west of Fort Worth. Expected to accumulate over 1/2 inch, maybe even one inch or more. Temps hovering at 34 or so in Dallas, but the "freezing line" is slowly coming our way. Expected to last all weekend and on into Monday morning.

The good news is that we're getting rain and as North Texans know we've been in a SEVERE drought the last few years.

Winter weather victims, check in!

1. Ice in St. Louis
We've had freezing rain overnight, and expecting more later.

They're expecting lots of power outages, as happened with the last ice storm in early December.

19. check with the airport before you go........
yesterday in Tulsa, they cancelled several incoming flights due to weather conditions.

And they're not too hopeful that conditions will improve before wednesday of next week. I'm assuming St Louis is probably the same way......

From the weather alert on Weather.com:

...ICE STORM WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM CST MONDAY...

They're showing rain/freezing rain and temps around freezing all afternoon and evening tomorrow, after hours of freezing rain starting last night.

on edit: while I was posting this, our power glitched. Just enough to shut down my computer and my TV. I expect that'll be the first of many.

4. Much the same here
We're on the edge of it here in NW Arkansas--same temp, and the rain hasn't let up. But the ice has, so far, stayed west of us, though we're expecting some tomorrow.

after being below zero just a couple days ago. This is not too unusual here though. We usually get a warm wind about this time of year. It won't last.

12. I'm in Tulsa, Ok........
It was spitting sleet and ice all day yesterday. Today we have a mixture of very little frozen snow and ice.

I went to my car a couple of times yesterday to remove the ice, because I knew I would have to go to work today. That helped because there was even more ice on it today.

They've been sanding the roads here and using ploughs to clear the ice but the roads are still covered with a couple of inches of ice. You can get around, just don't go over 30 mph......

13. Freezing rain/sleet
here in Kansas. So far my area has been pretty lucky, it was not bad yesterday but today and tomorrow are supposed to be nasty. Hard to believe it was 67 degrees here on Thursday, yesterday we hit 17 I think and it is 14 out there now.

Enjoy the moisture.

Still thankful to have power, but it's not over yet.
The streets are abandoned and there is no air traffic either, so when you go outside, there is an eerie silence.

15. Hard frost in Northern and Central Calif, frost on the coast/
Some areas of Sonoma/Napa wine country had temps in the teens overnight. The San Joaquin valley may have had a hard frost too and that spells bad news for lemons and limes. Any frost is bad for lettuce, another big winter crop in that area.

The coast has subfreezing temps and just a bit inland we had low 20s. That is extremely cold for this area. We should have overnight lows of about 40 degrees this time of year. The town closest to me broke a 65 year old record for low temps.

17. NE Oklahoma here
Have had a mix of freezing rain and sleet which began about 24 hours ago. Many downed power lines and trees due to the ice. Worst of that seems to begin about 30 miles or so to the south and east of the Tulsa area. Grove, McAlester, Checotah areas all hit hard with power outages. We are especting more of this winter mix to fall. Power outages could expand significantly. So far it appears that Tulsa and OKC areas have largely gotten sleet rather than freezing rain and have avoided major power problems. That may not continue to hold true. Many of the airlines have completely cancelled flights out of Tulsa. NW Arkansas is on the edge of the freezing line and is mostly wet - but may still see some freezing rain before this is over. Areas to the north and west of Tulsa and into Kansas have apparently received mostly a mix of sleet and snow.

Ice in Dallas? Stay home. I remember the havoc a light dusting of snow caused there a few years ago.

...there was a dusting of snow flurries last week, but nothing measureable. We are being told to prepare for an "arctic freeze" next Wed. with temps dropping to low 20's.

We're supposed to close at 6pm, but I'm pretty sure we'll close early.

The worst part, is I need to fill up my car, but I think I can wait on that a couple of more days. :) And I really really have to get to the grocery store today. I need the usual items in general, and I've been putting it off all week. :(

21. Iced in in Mid Missouri
We've got about a quarter inch of ice coating everything, with another two inches of sleet covering the ground. We're in a lull right now, but are supposed to get more ice today, tonight, and really get hit with ice tomorrow with snow coming in on Monday. They're talking about possible power outages here, etc.

We're all snugged in here and prepared, though I'm concerned how my orchard is going to bear up under the ice. Fortunately my electric coop does a very good job of tree trimming throughout the year, so hopefully we won't get that many electrical outages, unlike our less fortunate neighbors who use Ameren UE.

Good luck everybody, this is a widespread storm and could really cause some damage.

27. The worst part about this...
...and pardon me for injecting politics into what very well could be an unfortunate situation for Dallas residents; however, this will certainly be used by the corporate blowhards to disprove the 'theory' of global warming.

The leap of logic with the corporatists astounds me.

The last couple of days represent the first highs that haven't been 40 or above in southeast Michigan this winter. We've had just traces of snow for the entire season. Our ski hills are green.

But the cold pattern starts after the 15th. Still some disagreement on how long it will last and how cold it will be, but we have a good chance for a snow or ice event in January. The GFS keeps waffling on if there will be a noreaster.

in the 20s last night - bad news for farmers who are trying to save winter crops. My own citrus aren't looking too happy, and I'm worried about the avocado if we get another night like last night. It's also been drier than usual.
