This is tragic and horrible:
Child's Murder Stuns Clayton Neighborhood

Posted: Jan. 12, 2007
Updated: Today at 8:20 p.m.

Clayton — A Clayton man faces murder charges in connection with the slaying of his daughter inside their home late Friday afternoon.

Authorities said John Patrick Violette, 37, is responsible for the death of Katlin Violette, who recently celebrated her fourth birthday.

When Clayton police responded to a call at 2020 McKinnon Drive about 4:45 p.m. Friday, they found the child had been decapitated.

2. Read it in the paper this morning and still in disbelief.
I live in Raleigh NC. Also heard the 911 call. Not sure why the local news feels obliged to play stuff like that. Anyway what a terrible tragedy. I have two kids and this really hit me hard. How could anyone do something like that.

I can't say anything else.

Rest in peace, little angel.

3. There was a case here in Kansas City
They found a head. I don't think they ever found the rest of the body, but I can't remember for sure.

It was a 4 year old girl. It was several years before they finally identified her and arrested her stepfather who had killed her and dismembered her.

7. What I don't understand is:
Don't people like this give off some kind of warning sign? I mean, I don't believe in people just "snapping" where they are totally normal one day and the next they are total cold-blooded killers. If that were the case, then we all have the potential for doing something so horrible. I don't think we have that in us.

Now, assuming this guy gave off some kind of red flags, why would anyone ever marry someone like this in the first place? Don't get me wrong, I'm NOT blaming the mother. I'm just trying to understand how children (and people for that matter) can wind up in such tragic situations.

This is simply just too insane for me to understand.

Anyone with some medical knowledge that can explain this to me, I will definitely appreciate it.

8. I guess
there could be numerous reasons that could trigger this, drugs, psych problems, social enviroment whatever. But the bottom line is, none those things would be the sole cause only a true POS could do this.

4. What an animal.
For or against the death penalty, we can debate all day. But this POS needs to be put down.

6. How heartbreaking!
The poor little thing. I am not a death penalty advocate. He will get his in the end.
It seems the violence in our society just keeps escalating along with the rest of the world. I read about crimes that were un heard of a few years ago. My heart is breaking.

9. I'm pretty anti-death penalty, Pappa -
but in this case? Christ, I remember my daughter at 4 and will never understand something like this. You're right - it takes a non-human. :(

On that sad note, welcome to DU :hi:
