Scared Republicans
Do you think this last election scared Republicans? They're starting to think for themselves. I bet they're scared shitless about the next 08 election. They're on the verge of becoming irrelevent. If they don't get re-elected in suffient numbers it will be a complete reversal. Some Dems are already ignoring them. Ain't payback a bitch.

1. Yes, many are scared to death...
Democrats should keep this in mind.

2. They are only doing the right thing out of self interest. There is no concern for America.
I have lost hope that there are any Repug statesman.
No one who cares about the country or people.

4. Whatever it takes to stop Bush is fine with me, even if it's only self-interest
on the part of the Republicans.
I never thought they had character ever, anyway.

9. John Kenneth Galbraith once remarked on Political cowardice
Saying that it can have the unexpected result of getting people, worried about getting re-elected, to do the right thing. It's a double edged sword of course - as we saw while * was riding high until folks got the notion that supporting * means you lose.

5. I believe it is a combination of scared to death and they no longer
have to fear reprisals from the Bush admin since they have been neutered. They can actually speak their minds and hind behind the Dem majority for protection.

:woohoo:

6. My Republican representative is changing her spots.
Former uber-Republican Deborah Pryce has taken up every Democratic position in the new Congress. Jeez! I agree with her all the time now, unlike before.

7. Interesting -
Hi mwb970 -

I find Rep. Pryce's seeming change of heart interesting - how close was her re-election? Just idle curiousity - might be a new meme in another race against her <grin>.

8. Depends On The Repugnican
Be assured that there aren't as many self-proclaimed Repugnicans today that there were following the '04 elections. The party has had a steady stream of defections for many different reasons...adding up to some fun for us and the hinterlands for most of them. There are the "Defecit Repugnicans" who see boooshie's massive spending and running up the defecit while borrowing from China and other foreign lenders as being disastrous. Then there's the "Immigration/Dobbs Repugnicans" who think boooshie wants Hispanics to over-run the Southwest and West. Then there's the "Moderate" Repugnicans who are socially libral and long were given the stiff-arm by the boooosh regime. Those are the factions he lost that made it possible for the Democrats to win in '06...and the deterioration continues.

The results of the election have led to other defections...no one likes a loser. The Xtian Right feels totally shut out and sold out now. The Military Repugnicans are starting to fade away now as the blunders in Iraq pile up and the cuts in benefits and hardships of redeployment and extended stays are tearing up their beloved military. Lastly there are the "liberatarian" Repugnicans who are an amalgam of the gun nuts, xenophobes and other phobes who feel this regime has sold them out as well.

Think about this...when the 110th Congress began, the Repugnicans had to replace 3 of their 4 top leadership and saw some of their more influential members sent packing. The DCCC points out at least 20 if not more GOOP seats that are very winnable next year...places where Democrats nearly missed or the winning margin was less than 5%. Surely the Repugnicans are seeing these poll numbers as well. The confusion on their side is delightful. May they twist in the wind for years to come.

I strongly suspect we'll see a third party evolve...ala a Perot...before the '08 elections. The right wing is so split and conflicted, it's rife for an outsider to swoop in.
