Memorial in Houston to 3000+ KIA. 3000 flags.
Edited on Sun Jan-14-07 10:42 AM by johncoby2

Many thanks to the many individuals who helped with this display. Thanks to Code Pink for this writeup:

A four-day memorial to all casualties from the war in Iraq will occupy a portion of Memorial Park at the intersection of Memorial Dr. and the east entrance to Picnic Lane on the south side of Memorial Dr.

The observance will begin on 14 January and end on the 17th. The opening ceremony on the 14th will begin at 4:30pm. Short ceremonies will be held at sundown on the 15th and 16th. A gathering up of the flags will begin at 5:30pm on the 17th. This memorial is designed to help educate the public on the cost of war to our servicemen, Iraqi civilians, and private contractors. The memorial will consist of three displays.

The main display consists of over 3000 small U.S. flags (6 X 9) each labeled for a specific casualty. A sub-section for Texas casualties includes small Texas flags.

The second display is dedicated to the approximately 650,000 Iraq civilians who have lost their lives during this conflict.

A third display denotes the hundreds of civilian contractors killed in the Iraq war. Volunteers are needed to: assemble flags on 13 January at 2pm at the memorial site; place flags beginning at 8am on 14 January (and watch the Houston Marathon which will pass the site); and remove the flag display on 17 January at 5:30pm.

3. Beautifully done, but so heartbreaking....It would be wonderful if
every network and cable news channel showed this, repeatedly....I know, I'm dreaming.

Thank you johncoby2 for posting

5. can you imagine how many acres it would take to construct a similar display . . .
for the Americans who have been permanently damaged by this war? . . .

or for the milions of innocent Iraqis who have been killed or wounded? . . .

8. Big Thank You Johncoby2!!!
If it were not for people like you, and DU itself, people might have no way of knowing anything like this was going on. There was a protest here in Seattle, and all of the network news sites ignored it except one, and that one had a brief blurb about it that night, (the night of Bushs surge speech).
The MSM is definitely ignoring protests the best they can, or they are censoring most stories about them. It is a shame!
Let's hear it for everyone who put this display together in Texas!!! and dot John for sharing the pictures with the rest of us!!  :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :applause: :applause: :applause: :applause: :patriot: :patriot: :patriot: :patriot:

11. Thanks for posting this, johncoby.
Wonderful tribute. Hopefully we won't have to worry about some republican schmuck running over these flags with their pickup truck.
