HEADLINE: At least 6 boys die imitating Saddam hanging
CAIRO, Egypt – The boys' deaths – scattered in the United States, in Yemen, in Turkey and elsewhere – had one thing in common: They hanged themselves after watching televised images of Saddam Hussein's execution.

Officials and relatives say the children appeared to be mimicking the former Iraqi dictator's Dec. 30 hanging, shown both on a sanitized Iraqi government tape and explicit clandestine videos that popped up on websites and some TV channels.

The leaked videos, apparently taken by cellphone cameras, set off international outrage over the raucous scene just before Saddam's execution, but some experts are more concerned about the images of the deposed Iraqi leader dropping through the gallows floor and his body swinging at the end of a rope.

2. What a tragedy.
I am sorry for all the families and boys involved. I wonder why they are all boys? Just an academic question. I am not trying to diminish the deaths of the boys.

5. Maybe because Saddam was a "boy."
(Could be some of those sociological/psychological/genetic factors going on also. :hide:)

3. This is the dumbest thing I have ever heard.
Saddam's hanging causes wave of child suicides, literally severals of kids die!

This scandal is weaker then the Boxer/Rice thing.

Tragic, yes, but why dumb and weak? Just curious.

9. They killed themselves??

You don't consider that dumb??

An interesting take, is all I can say.

However, it is only GWB's fault at the very remotest remove. Much as I would like to think otherwise, the poster is right. It's a weak scandal. There are better ones out there, and we don't want to dilute their effectiveness with trivia (scandal-wise, not talking about the tragedy of the whole thing.) The American public will only take in so much before having "compassion overload".

12. I didn't post this for a "scandal" & didn't mention Bush
Sometimes 6 young kids imitating something they saw on YouTube or TV is a tragedy, not a scandal.

7. Thank MSM
for all their disgusting images. Of course they can't show dead and injured soldiers. Wait - they can' even show their caskets when they return home.
