Anybody find this odd? A shot across the bow at his son's presidency?

PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 12 (UPI) -- Former U.S. President George H.W. Bush has agreed to chair the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia.

Joseph M. Torsella, the president and CEO of the Center, announced Bush, 82, will replace John C. Bogle.

Bogle, the founder of the Vanguard Group, will become chairman emeritus of the organization. Bush said in a statement Thursday that he wants to be as involved with the Center as possible, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported Friday.

Bush's acceptance of the position contradicts a promise he made to himself on his 80th birthday to not take on any new causes. Bush has been connected to the Constitution Center for several years. He last appeared there to accept a congratulatory medal for his Katrina and South Asian tsunami fundraising efforts, during which he worked with former President Bill Clinton.

Torsella told the Inquirer the board pursued Bush aggressively and they were thrilled to have him taking over as chairman.
