Lieberman re-introduces act to reduce greenhouse gas emissions

NORWICH - U.S. Sen. Joseph Lieberman, I-Conn., along with a bipartisan group of others, re-introduced the Climate Stewardship and Innovation Act intended to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across all major sectors of the U.S. economy.

“When former skeptics cite melting habitat as the reason polar bears are now threatened, you know the global warming debate is over,” said Lieberman. “The American people want action now because they understand the alternative is bequeathing a diminished world to our children and grandchildren.

2. Appease base with one hand, amend bankruptcy laws to favor banks
at the expense of the little guy with the other. This man's depravity knows no end.

6. He was intolerably sanctimonious on MTP this morning
Even invoking 9/11 and claiming we're fighting the same people in Iraq. This base pervert invokes the dead to manipulate.

3. I'd like to see him start by curtailing his own gas emissions...
Sometimes the obvious cheap shot is the most satisfying response.

7. And sometimes the first that comes to mind ...
Saw the title of the OP and thought: "Good God, Lieberman has finally decided to shut the fuck up."

No such luck ...

8. Whatever Lieberman does I want reviewed by honest human people.
When an opportunist careerist offers a bill, I can only think, what's in it for him? I'll wait until honest, knowledgeable experts have an opportunity to review this bill. I'll never trust Joemenutm, EVER, on anything.

11. Barack Obama is a co-sponsor of the bill for what that is worth
Along with John McCain and Olympia Snow.

12. Lieberman has always had an excellent environmental record
so this is nothing new. He is an egotistical, whiny war hawk who talks too much about values, but he has always voted progressively on environmental issues, as well as reproductive rights issues and affirmative action.

13. haven't read the article yet, but playing the guessing game...
the reductions are 'voluntary' - for 'credits' (which can be traded to high polluters), and the limits are higher than current levels? Just guessing as those are the typical markers of GOP legislation on the topic, and I have grown skeptical of ole Joementum.

Will have to go read the article to see if it sheds light on my predictions.

15. Climate Stewardship and Innovation Act
Edited on Mon Jan-15-07 02:17 AM by oberliner
Set mandatory greenhouse gas pollution reductions:

All major sectors of the U.S. economy would limit greenhouse gas (GHG) pollution to year 2000 levels by 2010. The Bush administration, in contrast, has called only for "voluntary" pollution reductions which are important but do not go far enough. Mandatory targets are the only way to tackle global warming.
