What is the STATED reason that all states have not made MLK day a holiday?
Edited on Mon Jan-15-07 02:57 PM by Last Stand
The fact that this is not a national holiday is an indictment of this country and proof of modern-day institutional racism. A day of mourning (and a day off for Fed employees) for Gerald Ford, a push for a Reagan dime, and still no Federal Holiday for Martin Luther King--:wtf:

How do they justify it?

2. Just wait
This week marks the 200th birthday of that traitor Robert E. Lee.

3. It is a Federal Holiday
Or at least I hope so, since most federal agencies are closed down for the day...

4. Look at Virginia
They made it a combo - Martin Luther King/Gen. Robert E. Lee/Gen. Stonewall Jackson Day. I kid you not. IMO, combining the holidy w/a celebration for two Confederate generals shows deliberate, PROFOUND disrespect for Dr. King.

6. I hate to say this, but we need to act like MLK and forget writing petitions to make...
his birthday a holiday. We need to march on DC and take to the streets throughout the country. If we are going to be distracted by Arizona not making his birthday a holiday, we are missing the message.
Less talk, more action.
see ya on the 27th.

7. Well, it IS a federal holiday, so no petitions required.
If you work for the federal government, you have the day off...even if you live in AZ.
