I'm a dumbo who needs to learn
what the hell is happening in this country, and what do I do about it?

I'm a regular person going through my regular days with my regular life.

So? Convince me that it is in my best interest to support the democrats.

? Convince me.

1. read Free Republic for awhile. Come back and read here. If you can not see the difference
go post there. Did you read the rules? WE are here to support Democrats and Democratic ideals.

2. Depends how much of a dumbo you are.
The dumber they are, the more readily they have an answer for what you tell them, and the more identical those answers are.

Some examples:

STATEMENT: The Bush foreign policy is making your country a pariah and a laughingstock!
RESPONSE: I don't care what a lot of foreigners think.

STATEMENT: The country's economy is going into the toilet, and future generations are going to have to figure out how to fix it!
RESPONSE: I don't care what a lot of future people have to deal with.

STATEMENT: If this government doesn't try to enact some environmental protections soon, the Statue of Liberty is going to be up to her tits in water!
RESPONSE: I don't care if a lot of liberal New Yorkers get wet.

You get the idea. Short answer: I can't convince you.

8. Can someone tell me where this came from?
I should have asked the person I was talking to at the time, but I was just too taken aback--sorry, I don't always think that well on my feet.

Happened have a conversation in passing with a self-described "Bush man." I opened with "Do you know what the national debt is?" to which he replied "yes--doesn't matter." Me: "Are you kidding? Do you know who's holding a large percentage of our bonds?" Him: "Yes. Doesn't matter. We have the wheat." Me: Open mouth, "huh?" look, head shake. Him: A "so that proves it" look.

Huh? I tried Googling a few word combinations, but am coming up with nothing that enlightens me as to why he thinks wheat will save us. Just a lot of depressing pages about the Great Depression.

9. Next time you meet that clown, tell him that in fact WE (Canada) have the wheat!
Mwa-ha-ha!

As to where the whole not caring thing came from, well, I guess it's a defence mechanism. If they suddenly cared, they'd be in a world of fear and confusion.

10. But why might he think the world is going to prop us up
because "we have the wheat'?

(I realize I'm asking for an explanation of nonsense--I just figured it came from some right-wing blather, and thought someone might know *whose* blather. Just curious.)

13. Never heard it before.
Maybe it's tied in with the whole right-wing "Weep-O-Crat" movement of late October '06 through roughly mid-December of the same year.

15. I have a hunch.
And Google provided the links. This is plausibly what he meant.

http://www.theglobalist.com/StoryId.aspx?StoryId=3827

http://www.ifpri.org/2020/briefs/number20.htm

http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/english/doc/2004-11/01/content_387570.htm

Short story: China has large population, an impending water crunch, and a population demanding more food and more meat. They (therefore) import grain, and for a number of years the grain imports continued to rise. But 2004 saw the Chinese government announce a bumper crop; I'm not looking any further, but the intermediate-term outlook isn't great (short term is ok, long term is okay, very long term doesn't matter).

It may be that the guy's info was a couple of years old (it happens to the best of us), or he may be extrapolating out a number of years. He's also making tacit assumptions about global population growth, US population growth, and agricultural production (global and in the US).

4. MoseyWalker...
In the environment that we were in the last 6-12 years and the complete disregard of Congress and the American people...we have to place our hope in the future of America in the Hands of the Democrats...at this point. If they don't do their jobs we will get rid of them too.

They have made more progress in the last week than the Repugs did in the last year...so that is hopeful...

The Republicans obviously support corporate intrests not the ordinary Joe and Mary like you and me...

The Repugs consider our soldiars cannon fodder for their games of power..The Dems are at least trying to stop the killing of our troops.

The Democrats at least recognize that the Constitution is the basis of this country not ubber convervative Necon Christianity...

If Lieberwhore is the other alternative then no dice there..

So what is left...I submit that if the Dems do not do the will of the people and stop the war and remove this administration....the American people will have the last say.

That's my two cents.

7. Most Dems are more labor friendly than any repubs
Even if you don't belong to any Unions, even if you don't think much of organized labor, the Dems are trying to make a better life for all people out here, not just the rich.

11. I'm not going to convince you. I will suggest this.
Read the archives of the left and right blogs and the center blogs. Here they have good solid reporting on the main page and I would suggest to you to read whatever you can about what interests you.
I don't know what to suggest in the right side
A good one for a moderate one is Moderate Voice.
I also suggest if you want to talk to someone one on one about this you are free to send me a private message and I will be more than happy to talk to you about the issues and how I, on the left, feels about things.
I don't call names or anything but, I feel I can be a level headed sort of person.
anytime you want please feel free.

16. There Are Only Two Choices Of Your Best Interests: Republicans Or Democrats.
Which side has more of your best interests in mind? Whichever side that is, is the side you should support.
