Are we there yet? Are we there yet?
Edited on Mon Jan-15-07 09:31 PM by Javaman
So I was sitting at home when the phone rang, I first said hi to agent mike, then proceeded with my call. It was my mom, she loved the letter I wrote her but wanted to find out why so much of it was blacked out. I replied, that I will send an email instead but then realized that probably will be blacked out too. I told mom not to worry and that I loved her. The giggling in the background makes it so hard to be sincere to my mom.

After I hung up, I walked out to my car, when several police cars pulled, the officer pulled out his pistol and demanded my drivers license. I sighed, tired of this routine, I handed over my license, he ran it through his reader. the look of surprise on his face told me everything. He saw that my name really was John Doe and not an alias. While putting my wallet back in my pocket, the officer told me that I was due for my next physical soon. I thanked him and off he went.

It was my day off but I needed some paper work at my office. I scanned in my security card, but it didn't work. I pushed the little button on the squawk box to talk to the security officer. "oh mr. doe, I thought you were off today?" I explained my issue and he let me in. After passing through the receptionist/security officer, up I went to my office.

I might as well check my email. Several emails from various vendors and work related issues popped up. Half of which were also spam. All of the spam addressed to me also several that were from major dept stores I have never visited, informing me of choices they have made based upon my shopping history. I deleted them. they are so annoying. After answering several emails and security encoding them so the corporate spies won't read them, I left.

On my way back to my car, I decided to stop and get a chai latte. Because I'm a member, I swipe my credit card this time and get a free one. I'm glad they have me in their files to this way I can get free stuff.

I just remembered, I have to call my doctor, I remembered the comment by the cop regarding my physical. I call my doctor on my cell and he informs me that with his new electronic filing system, he can get some information tracking all my general habits and how they effect my diet and well being. He told me that the chai may taste good, but the sugar in it won't do me a bit of good. I thanked him and threw out the chai.

I finally get home and settle down in front of the TV. Because my new cable provider can track my viewing favorites, it suggests a list of shows that I might be interested in. I find that so convenient.

After cruising through the channels I get sleepy and go to bed. I know for the first time that day, I can truly relax. Even though it was my day off, I never really feel alone, funny how that is.

1. Reminds me of the old Twilight Zone show
where everyone has an embedded computer chip which is plugged in to the main central computer.

Great story Javaman.

convience that all this data is store about you. It will help you, and those who have to monitor you lead a more convient life. That's all that you need to worry about now. Get along with your routine.

3. That's where we're going, all right
I pay for most things with cash. People look at me funny. I use my grocery card because it saves me some fairly serious money and I *think* I don't care if people know what groceries I buy, but I really *ought* to care.

You can get around it until they start putting RFIDs in everything.
