Shoes needed for 'Walk in their Shoes'
Dear Friends,

WE NEED 6,550 PAIRS OF SHOES to build ahref="http://www.walkintheirshoes.org""Walk in their Shoes" installation forhref=" http://www.unitedforpeace.org"J27 - Bring or mail one or more pairs ofshoes for January 27th March on Congress. href="http://www.unitedforpeace.org "http://www.unitedforpeace.org. If we each bring just one pairwe will have enough for this installation and others around the city. We especially need baby, toddler, young girlsand boys shoes, and women's sandals and heels. Label them if you can. Go to href=" http://www.walkintheirshoes.org"http://www.walkintheirshoes.org for details. We also need volunteers to help with logistics in DC . To volunteer go tohref=" http://www.codepinkalert.org/modinput4.php?modin=68"http://www.codepinkalert.org/modinput4.php?modin=68

The "Walk in Their Shoes"installation acknowledges the desperate plight of the Iraqis, especially those who have lost their lives in this devastating war and occupation. Arecent Johns Hopkins report revealed that over 655,000 Iraqis have died since the US invasion and polls show that the overwhelming majority of Iraqis want the US military to leave. An estimated 2.5 Iraqis are internally displaced or have fled to other countries. Shoes help people to visualize the unspeakable pain and suffering this war has inflicted on the Iraqi people. They also serve to remind politicians and voters of the consequences of voting to go to war, voting to fund war, voting to "stay the course". The installation will be on exhibit J27 on the National Mall and then it will be moved to a permanent display in Washington. We are working on a site across from the U.S. Capitol, among other possible sites.

Shoes: On J27, bring your shoes to the rally and look for the drop off point on the north side of the Mall at 3rd and at 7th.
Before J27 you can mail or drop shoes off atAl-Fishawy Cafe(aka The People's Media Center). 4132 Georgia Ave NW (between Upshur & Taylor Streets), Washington, DC20011
METRO: Green line: Georgia/Petworth walk 3 blocks north on Georgia; BUS: #70/71/64 bus lines.
Questions re drop off or mailing contact href="mailto:sonia@codepinkalert.org "sonia@codepinkalert.org. Put "SHOES" in the subject line.
Hours are 1-9 pm, Phone:202-722-0150

7. If you go 'round to where they take and sort donations, you may
get some for free because a lot of times, they get shoes that they can't sell because of wear or whatever. Save them having to dispose of them. :)

8. Great idea
I will be able to bring little baby shoes that my grandsons have outgrown. That is a very powerful message to see the shoes.
