Bill O'Reilly is pond scum.
I was flipping channels last night and noticed that Greta Van Susteren was on O'Reilly to discuss the Shawn Hornbeck case. I decided, against my better judgment, to watch a few minutes to see what she had to say. Big mistake.

In response to Greta's comments about Shawn and "Stockholm syndrome," Bill-O said that he didn't believe Shawn was suffering from that. He basically said that Shawn didn't tell anyone that he had been abducted because he LIKED living with Devlin because he didn't have to go to school and he didn't want to go back home. He said some more stupid bullshit along those lines but I honestly didn't catch all of it because I was screaming at my TV.

I know we make a lot of jokes here about O'Reilly and the falafel/loofah tapes, but I honestly believe that sick motherfucker is a sexual predator. I think he made those calls to Andrea Mackris, not because he got off on talking dirty to her but because he got off on the fact that he was making her uncomfortable. Think about that for a moment. Bill O'Reilly got sexual gratification from making another person feel degraded. Now, I won't go so far as to say that he is in the same league as perverts like Devlin but it doesn't surprise me that he is blaming the victim in this case. I'm sure in his black heart he relates more to Devlin than to Hornbeck.

I hope Keith Olbermann caught last nights episode and makes a whole new "Worst Person In The World" category for Bill-O after his disgusting comments. Perhaps "Worst Piece of Shit in the Entire Universe."

29. Well, hang in there. O'Fuckface gets called any number of things
on regular basis. Most of which have more integrity, honesty, and truth in one molecule of their being than that faux news POS ever will.

I got this one, you get the next one!

2. Say what you like, just spell his name correctly.
O'Reilly knows exactly what he's doing, and making a ton of money doing it.

4. Actually, Greta brought that up.
He said the Elizabeth Smart case was different because she was always with the people who took her.

I tell you, I feel so bad for this kid. I knew as soon as this story started coming out that a bunch of stupid low-life idiots were going to start saying shit like this. Of course, O'Reilly is the low-life posterboy so I shouldn't be surprised.

7. I honestly don't get the point they are trying to make
by blaming the kid? Seriously, often the rants seem to have a point (often to rationalize some self-righteous sense of something - or to hide/counter some subtle (or not so subtle) bigotry - but I don't see the why on this one.

5. "I was screaming at my tv"
Which is another reason not to give that dirty piece of garbage any ratings. TV's are a large expense and it's better not to break them, which is what I would likely do. Once I was listening to limbaugh while driving and I got so pissed off I almost ran off the road. Decided right then and there that it just isn't worth it. The hell with all of them. Hopefully, the Kucinich efforts to bring back the fairness doctrine will have results.

10. Patty Hearst sound familiar?
I would bet the kid suffered serious, serious head games in the early period of his captivity. There is so much we don't know - that it seems very premature to do the blame the kid thing.

Sounds like he had a life most teenagers would love to have.

15. May I caution waiting until we know the details
before we determine that he had a life most teenagers would love to have?

There was likely some serious coercion - esp early on after being abducted. When we learn more of the story - then we can talk about whether or not the kid had the 'ideal' life.

17. All I know is the number of posters on here that attacked the Duke
players before all the information was out. But the early info on Shawn was he was alone a lot, had a computer and cell phone and could have contact the police and his parents. Until I know more, I will not  for him.

22. Of course he did...
cause most parents dream of being torn away from their families and being raised by a kidnapping stranger. Makes total sense.

11. But do we know everything that happened?
I thought the child was sexually abused--giving the boy gifts would have given the preditor the fantasy that the boy really "loved" him.

12. That's just sick.
Kidnapped at 11 and probably raped repeatedly. Yeah, that's a real good thing he had going there. And what the hell does the lip ring and earring have to do with anything? He had an earring BEFORE he was kidnapped.

Steven Staynor, Elizabeth Smart and Shawn all reacted pretty much the same way. It's about survival. Not just physical survival but mentally as well. Plus these sickos threaten the kids by saying they'll kill their families. He was a child when this happened and you're looking at the teenager he has become, the teenager that this monster manipulated and probably abused for years, and judging what he did to SURVIVE. Unbelievable.

14. Shawn had all the time in the world to leave but didn't
In fact he posted on his parents web site and his posts were not a cry for help.

Unlike Elizabeth Smart this teenager had all the time in the world to escape but didn't.

20. What the hell happened to you when you were 11
that you are so clueless about abduction/rape of children?

Really? A psych course might help you, but then again, probably not.

If he was abducted at 11, he was seriously damaged emotionally, mentally, psychologically and no doubt physically. People who are damaged thus do not make rational decisions, especially when they are still CHILDREN.

I thought I had seen the most callous post on DU, but you hionestly win the Grand Prize.

23. You said that you wouldn't make judgements until all the information
is in, which is an admirable position. But, you aren't doing that. You are judging this case as though he was happy where he was. You can not know that. You can not know that his posting on his parents website wasn't a cry for help. You can't know his motives, his mind, or anything.

It sounds like a pretty good life for a kid that age. Let's wait till some more info comes out, though. Who knows what that creep said to the kid? And he was a big creep.

16. "against my better judgment."
This is why Fox is programmed off of my TV.

Like you, I honestly believe that O'Reilly (and many others) are sick and twisted excuses for human beings- and it triggers me to watch even a short segment of them.

One of these days, they'll get theirs- hopefully in prison- but in the meantime, life's too short to allow them to get to us.

31. Yes.
I think people put sexual harassment in a different category-like it's just harmless flirtation that maybe gets out of hand. And sometimes, it probably is. But there's a big difference between some clueless guy that doesn't know when to stop and a guy that KNOWS he is making you uncomfortable and embarrassed but continues because he gets off on making you feel that way. I think O'Reilly falls into that second category. It has very little to do with sex and everything to do with power, anger, control and a kind of sadism.
