Can the damage be repaired ?
Or is it irreparable? No, I'm not talking about Iraq - I'm talking about America. Will the rights that we surrendered to the "government" ever be regained? Many Americans were quick to give up their civil liberties for a little perceived "safety". They lost both.

Will the trust ever be restored? On one average day, we learned that the man in the White House had illegally spied on over a million Americans. Just recently, he said he had the authority to open our mail anytime he chose. Who can ever trust the government again?

Will we ever regain our courage? Like chickens in a rainstorm, Americans scurried in fear as the leaders reminded them that they were about to be attacked again. It was uncharacteristic of everything we have ever been taught about Americans. We were not a fearful people. We were brave. However, somewhere that changed...

1. The battle for liberty never ends.
The real question is not whether liberty is possible, but are we truly up to the battle? 2006 was a nice start, but why didn't it start in 2004?

3. Yes it can be
We never had that much courage to start with, but we have enough to rebuild. The foundations are still there, and while some rot will have to be cleared away I think it's doable.

4. Yes, America CAN be repaired. Imagine what it would mean
for someone like a Kucinich or a Russ Finegold to be elected President. I know Russ is not running and the odds against Dennis are huge, but I mean if someone LIKE them were to be elected. With care, this country could be returned to its former glory under the leadership of an enlightened Administration. I believe that the Democrats WILL elelct someone like them, maybe not quite as good, but good enough to lead this country back to dignity and hope.
The American people are tired of the fear and hate-mongering by this president, and are ready to elect someone who will restore sanity and honest government. Together with a Democratically controlled Congress, much progress can be achieved to restore our civil liberties and Constitution.

5. I am not positive- the damage is deep- while the left focuses
on one thing, the TEAMBush(tm) was busy gutting and destroying EVERYTHING.

Even now, we are focused on impeachment and Iraq while they systematically gut environmental laws, corporate policing, etc.

The damage is systemic and deep... much deeper than Nixon, Reagan, or Bush I.

8. I stopped "trusting" our government in 1965.
That's when our glorious leader of the time, LBJ, ratcheted up the war in Vietnam. Although, I got pretty sceptical in 1962 when I was locked in a barracks in a "target" area during the Cuban missile crisis.
