(MCT)

WASHINGTON - Vice President Dick Cheney had a message Sunday for Congress about Iraq: Quit meddling.

"You can't run a war by committee," Cheney said in an interview, doing his part to sell the president's plan to pump 21,500 more troops into Iraq.

"We've got a good plan," he said on "Fox News Sunday," while President Bush made his case later on "60 Minutes."

"We're just beginning the execution of the plan," Cheney added. "Why don't we get together in a couple of months and see how it worked?"

Democrats and some Republicans are not eager to wait after nearly four years of war.

Congress is teeing up a resolution this week to condemn the troop surge in a symbolic vote of no-confidence.

Democrats hope sending such a public denunciation will build support for future actions with more teeth.

Cheney said the vote would not change the president's plan. He argued heeding Democrats' calls to "redeploy" from Iraq would hand al-Qaida a victory and said Democrats have offered no plan of their own.

"If we were to follow their guidance ... we simply go back and revalidate the strategy that Osama bin Laden has been following from day one, that if you kill enough Americans, you can force them to quit, that we don't have the stomach for the fight," he said.

Bush said on the CBS show that he didn't think Congress could stop him.

Is Shrub & Shooter's total disregard for the will of the people and Congress unprecedented in modern times? Or anytime? They act as though the election and associated mandate never occurred last November, and that the Congress is still rubber stamping the doctrine according to Shrub.

They act like school yard bully's who never got the message. Certainly, our founding fathers (and mothers) never intended such a gross abuse of Executive power! :grr:

2. By all means...
Tell us how you "run a war" democratically. Humanely. Liberally. With liberty and justice and cuddles for all.

4. Well, actually, the only way they CAN run this war is by dictatorship.
They ignore the will of the citizens, they ignore the citizens' elected representatives, they ignore the Constitution, they ignore the rule of Law. They run their war as they damn please.

That's dictatorship, in my book. And this dictatorship is the ONLY reason why this "war" (illegal INVASION & OCCUPATION!) is still going on.

6. Our Constitution is not built for dictators...
I agree scarletwoman; though what I don't get is how in this land of Democracy the BushCo regime seems to move forward with such arrogance and stupid wildly fucked up bravado?

I'm not a student of political science, though with both the Senate and House under a DEM majority, there MUST be broader checks and brakes that we can place on this insane Iraq mess.

The closest I've seen yet is Kennedy's proposal to pull funds on this war. It seems the arrogant actions of Shrub suggests loud and clear that immediate and decisive action must be taken by Congress to stop this egomaniac!!! TODAY!

Of course, I'm just preaching to the choir on DU.
