Please AL GORE: RUN for President in 08!

I am not happy with the current list. Obama is too inexperienced (as is Edwards). Sorry, one term as Senator does not a qualified canidate make...I WANT a qualified canidate. REALLY qualified.

Hiliary Clinton has been a huge disappointment with her support of this war, & she is too emeshed in the establishment. Plus, she is too divisive a figure. She will draw out a every wack job Republican from the woodwork and energize their base as nothing else could.

Whether we get it or not, we desperately need a thoughtful, experienced, and tested person and Gore is the only one I see who fits the bill.

Please AL GORE....RUN IN 08!!!

My reluctant second choice is Edwards since he has begun to really speak deeply of the issues and tilting left. Obama I lost trust in when we fought the Alito battle and he hemmed and hawed and thought fillibustering was the wrong way to go about it (but, threw in anyway when he tested his fingers against the political winds). The Samuel Alito vote was a huge test for me about where the politicians really stood. Obama failed it, as did Hiliary (yes, yes, I know they both went along with it...but I remember calling their offices repeatedly and being told they were NOT going to go along with it. All of us who fought that battle DRAGGED them through sheer rage to our side)....

We need a exceptional canidate. Gore is the only one.

13. Re-Elect - - - - AL - - - - GORE

Gore is the strongest candidate -- And would be much stronger than the last time he won.

Gore would also be the one with the moral integrity and the ability to lead without being intimidated by the right wing propaganda machine AFTER BEING RE-ELECTED.

Run, Al, Run.....

Your country is calling.

18. Strange how you don't mention the climate crisis once in this post.
Many who are so intent on having Gore run are only interested in winning.

Gore is interested in saving the planet, first and foremost. Those who appeal to him or pretend to know what his best path is should share that as a central interest.

20. The EPA under Bush is dead.
Edited on Wed Jan-17-07 02:10 AM by DesertedRose
And as for agriculture: 'Organic' doesn't even mean the same thing anymore. Genetically Modified Foods are everywhere. Mercury is everywhere. Monsanto runs the show. It's affecting our health and the future health of our kids.

With Gore at the helm, he could certainly help to undo the damage done by Bush and his corporate cronies. That's one of the reasons I'd vote for him.

Science would mean something again....science and technology could be brought back to the forefront in our schools so our kids could remain competitive with the rest of the world.

And yes, I'd think he'd win. That's not mutually exclusive from why I'd support him, though.

That is not what Mr. Gore is about. This crisis and solving it is his PASSION in life. I sincerely wonder if some can truly understand what that means and how urgent the call for ALL of us to act now is.

24. I'm with you
I like Al - he's my first choice. I heard an NPR thing this morning about Obama and Clinton as front runners. I like both of them, but don't want either of them as the candidate. I think Gore, with his efforts to bring the global warming issue to the forefront, plus his experience and the fact that he was already elected once, make him a great choice. I'm really a Kucinich fan, but I think Gore stands a much better chance of winning.

26. 1 term as a senator is more "experience" than Bill Clinton had
I have never understood the requirement in some people's minds that a good candidate has to have a lot of years in the US Senate. Seems to me there are a lot of ways to educate one's self on the inner workings of the country and of the world - have a sense of what is needed for the future etc.

Seems to me the best way to choose a candidate is on the sum total of someone's LIFE experience, personal outlook, personal characteristics etc and how they do or do not fit what we think will be needed from a President in the next 4 years.

Each of our current front runners has a unique ideology and list of personality strengths. What matters is what raw material are we working with and how will that translate into a presidency.

I don't see how any service in the Senate is even important - other than politically getting a candidate a national stage.

Widely regarded as our 3 greatest presidents, none had any Senate experience.

But I would love to see Gore as President.

31. Then sign the draft Gore petition... (link)
Email I got today, Jan 17.

Dear
(local) Democrats,
Al Gore is currently "standing for office". If enough people request that
he consider entering the 2008 Presidential race, despite the raw treatment
he received in 2000, he may consider running.
Perhaps if Al Gore sees that enough Americans want him to run, he will heed
the call.

If you would like to see Al Gore run for the Democratic nomination, please
sign the petition at:

http://draftgore.com/

I am convinced that Al Gore is our best candidate to win the Presidency in
2008. He's been a leader on many issues, especially, but not only, facing
the real problems of our impact on the environment. He is a leader in well
managed effective government, and has repeatedly shown the ability to stand
up to moneyed interests when they conflict with our national interests, to
say nothing of his being against the war in Iraq.

One last thought, some of you may also be as fortunate as I am to know Al
Gore personally. He is nothing like the cardboard portrait the press
created in the 2000 campaign. Just think of the person you have seen on the
talk shows. You don't have to rely on an imposed portrait. You have had
enough opportunities to judge for yourself based on the personality that
came out when you had more direct information. He is actually a funny,
charming and thoughtful person.

34. Hillary and Obama frontrunners for Dem nomination (NPR)
Seeing this headline this morning made me sorely depressed. Neither Hil or Bama have even officially announced that they are running, yet the press has already declared THEM the frontrunners. Gag.

Hilliary is a true flip-flopper. First a major supporter of Bush and his illegal war, now a loud mouthpiece decrying it. First a stalwart loyalist of Lieberman, then a flip flopper when he lost the primary. First a committed opponent of same-sex marriage, now a squishy-soft proponent of "civil unions" (She's "evolving" so she says).

And Bama. Couldn't say why exactly I've not been an enthusiastic supporter, until the OP reminded me about the Alito vote. Thank you, debbierlus, for the reminder. He's has lost my confidence. No backbone; too easily manipulated by polls and political influence.

Gore is my president. Now and in 2008.

36. That's the media talking.
You've got the corporate media appointed front runner and the corporate media approved "alternative". It's January. There are no "frontrunners", yet.

I'll tell you one thing, in poll after poll after poll, the FRONT RUNNER on DU is clearly Al Gore.

37. Gore is my first choice too but...
I hear people, mostly Republicans, say all the time that Obama is not experienced enough. Most of our presidents in recent years, including Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter, had only previously served as governors and had NO foreign policy experience. Bush "the first" was probably the most experienced we have had recently.

40. Gore is my first pick
The American public is ready for Gore, his honest somewhat less than slick charisma is what Americans are craving after 6 years of BS.

Also, only a Gore candidacy puts Global Warming on the radar, or any other environmental issue for that matter.

Finally, he's got the experience to get it right and swim the shark infested waters.

GORE in 2008
