I think McCain will fade and I doubt that Rudy will weather the storm.

I have a feeling that the "powers that be" know who their candidate will be and so far WE don't have a clue yet.

Look at how they snuck *² past us. until mid'99, no one ever though he would be "the annointed one".

They don't have a Bob Dole waiting patiently for "his turn".. they don't have a St Ronnie of Reagan..

They Bushified the process for so long that all the oxygen got used up.

their base is pretty fractured these days. Finding someone who will unify the racists, the brazillionaires, the anti-immigrants, the fetus-worshipers, and the war-lovers will be a difficult thing to do ..

Here's hoping that our candidate will be able to chip off enough of the wishy-washy middle to clean their clocks again :)

Every day it becomes clearer that we're going to win big in 08, especially if the Dem congress takes a close look at the black box issue.

7. I don't think it matters much who they run

because rank and file pubbies are not going to vote for another religious wacko and the religious wackos aren't going to vote for anyone with the vaguest reputation of having common sense.

They'll run a sacrificial lamb, I think, and a crazy like Brownback is perfect, now that Allen has disgraced himself into provincial oblivion. Tancredo could provide a fallback position if Brownback manages to disgrace himself like Allen did.

Most rank and file pubbies are thoroughly sick of the religious right, and sacrificing Brownback would either drive the nuts to found their own party or encourage them to "settle" for the usual type of pubbie, you know, only HALF insane.

In any case, a split in that party is long overdue. Abortion is still legal and gay marriage is gaining acceptance despite the best efforts of the pompadoured CBN ranters. Most pubbies will have a long sigh of relief when they go.
