Is there any movement for a Dean run in 2008.
If not, where have the "Deaniacs" (an expression from back in the day) aligned themselves?

1. Dean says no run. I think the old supporters have gone to a variety of candidates.

2. Only if Al From and James Carville depose him as head of the DNC
and that's a very long shot since his 50 state strategy starting at the grass roots and working up worked so spectacularly in 2006.

He's too good where he is, reshaping the party away from the DLC model of whoring for corporate cash and to hell with the rank and file.

3. As DNC chair you agree not to run, IIRC
But instead we will get Deans revenge, He he he, LOL.

9. Is that in the bylaws or is it a "gentlemen's agreement" type of thing?

12. When running for DNC Chairman, he promised not to run in '08
Many would not have supported him if they though he was going to use his chairmanship to promote his candidacy at the expense of electing Democrats.

We had a situation here a Florida recently where the state party chair used his position to further his candidacy rather build the party. Fortunately he is now gone, and the party is again growing.

4. Dean's the party chairman, and his supporters know that he can't
run, because of that.

As far as where his supporters are going...well, that I'm not allowed to say. :)

6. The very second Dean declares...
...this Deaniac is behind him 110%. But he did say that he wouldn't run for president, if he were elected to chair the DNC, so I expect him to wait before running again.

7. I'd hate to lose him as chairman.
He ran a great campaign plus he can speak for the party without seeming like just another PR stooge.

8. Gore/Dean 08: Saving the Democratic party from itself.
Dean's not running though. He's doing great work for the party.

Now if the DLC backstabbers and establishment footdraggers would just leave him be.

10. Dean says he's not running, and I believe him. As a former "Deaniac"
I would say that for myself I haven't decided on '08. I like many of the potential candidates and the Dean supporters are not some kind of bloc voters who will endorse one candidate in masse--with the possible exception of Al Gore.

11. I didn't mean to imply that Dean supporters were a bloc
I guess what prompted my questions was recalling the grassroots nature of the campaign that was so remarkable.

I was curious where that energy was being directed now, really, and if any new candidate exhibited the same characteristics that Dean supporters found so attractive.

Gore would seem to fit the bill quite naturally.

15. He's perfect where he is now.
He was my top choice in '04, and I was very disappointed when he didn't get the nom - but in one of those ironic twists of fate, it may be precisely because he didn't get the nom in '04, which allowed him to become chairman of the party, that we have a future to look forward to at all.

I like all the candidates who have been mentioned so far (Hillary too!), and would be delighted to vote for any one of them - but my absolute #1 top choice would be Al Gore.

16. Most are totally realistic that he won't run in 08.
But I can guarantee the support would be there if he did. Don't think so, though. He seems to thrive on what he is doing, despite the arrows from the Carville/Begala wing of the party.

18. I take Dean at his word that he won't run in '08. If Gore declares,
I'll back him. If not, I'll back Edwards (and if you'd told me that 4 years ago I would not have believed it!)
