Jolie and Pitt going to New Orleans
Edited on Tue Jan-16-07 08:53 PM by Horse with no Name
to effect change there!
On Keith now.

Edited to add link:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14608430/

Actor Brad Pitt, right, smiles along with Lower Ninth Ward resident Pam Dashiell during a news conference to announce the winner of a design competition in New Orleans on Aug. 31. Pitt worked with Global Green USA in hopes of creating the first redevelopment project in the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans, and it is planned to be environmentally friendly.

Keith said that they have now purchased a home down there and plan on really doing some heavy work.
They are simply great!:loveya:

3. Would it help to know
that they are buying a 3.5 million home? I'd like to see them in a FEMA trailer.

8. Why?
Why do they need to suffer because others are suffering?
They are DONATING millions of dollars to the people of NOLA, they are donating time and they are the ONLY ones willing to lend their celebrity and help people in the Ninth Ward. Not only that...but they will help the struggling economy down there.
They do good work all over the world. I don't have a problem at all with their living arrangements.

5. Clever way of them to keep NOLA in the news.
The paparrazzi are bound to camp out there now, and in that bright light on Brangelina, NOLA will be in the backdrop. BushCo won't be able to hide their failures as easily now.

6. Good For Pitt
I read his philosophy on this, I think in a Newsweek article. He figures if the media is going to follow him everywhere, he's going to start leading them places they wouldn't normally go.

HA!

7. Environmentally friendly?
Edited on Tue Jan-16-07 09:00 PM by geomon666
Funny, considering the environment is sinking/sliding New Orleans into the water.

15. I love how, even on DU, folks believe only rich people should buy land in dangerous coastal areas
Edited on Wed Jan-17-07 04:10 PM by Leopolds Ghost
Because that is the effect of stealing land from poor 9th Ward residents (most of whom are homeowners) bundling it, and reselling it to "someone"
because "poor people shouldn't have to live in that hellhole..."

Guess who that someone is?

It works the same in every major US city where an "inner city hellhole in a polluted area where no one should have to live" gets gentrified... to provide the funding needed to better the lives of its former residents, of course... the few who are allowed to remain... come to DC some time, we can switch places, I'm going down to NOLA soon.

Urban theorist Andre Duany, who has been hired to redesign the Gulf Coast, made the philosophy of "green gentrification" explicit... only the rich should live south of the Sunset Limited RR tracks, he says, because "those people" were endangering the environment with their poorly-built shotgun houses, even if it was their only posession, so penalize future buyers until only the rich can afford it.

On edit: This is not a reference to Brad Pitt, it's a reference to "green gentrification" advocates, many of whom are my neighbors. I live in a big environmental community and you are constantly hearing people say "tear down the high-rise apartments, they are bad for the environment and nobody should have to live like that."

They believe that if poor people live in the flood-plain, too damn bad, they should be pensalized for society's transgressions or to protect "the children" from their parents' bad choice to live in that city.

I don't see them picketing mansions in Vail...

So the house shakes every now and then. The only thing better than living in California, is not living in California. :P

16. Yay...the bushits worst nightmare.
One of them, anyway. High profile people raising awareness on New Orleans and effecting change.

The bushits deserved to be indicted for crimes against humanity and negligent homicide.
