'Faith Day' part of Rockies' promotions lineup

The church is one of many across the Denver area invited to "Faith Day" at the ballpark.

The Colorado Rockies for the past two seasons have hosted "Christian Family Day," offering church groups discounted tickets and putting on post-game shows featuring Christian bands and testimonials from Christian players and coaches.

The team has not publicized the events beyond church circles, so most fans may not have noticed.

The Rockies have scheduled this year's promotion for the July 29 game against the Los Angeles Dodgers and have changed the name in an apparent effort to make it more inclusive. While the team has put a new label on the day, it's unclear whether it will alter the content. The Rockies are still ironing out the details.

1. They're a private corporation...

...and can stage any sort of religious promotions they want.

It's ironic, though, to be offering "Faith Day," since the general consensus is that, this season, the Rockies don't have a prayer. :evilgrin:

if they moved Denver to sea level they'd all become Democrats. I wonder when they're going to have atheist day at the ballpark? :shrug:

3. So when are they going to offer Atheist Family day???????

Oh, because they are a commercial firm they can discriminate. What if they had an all African American day or an all white person day? Or what if they decided white people couldn't use the bathrooms? Then that would be alright too because in this country business is God.

I'll make it a point never to attend.

4. Maybe we could organize an "Other Faiths day"

The idea just annoys me.

5. It's probably safe to assume that most there will be rooting for the Rockies . .

i.e. praying for the Rockies. And if the Rockies lose, is that proof that the great Godly state of California and its prayer warriors lack faith, or are not pleasing to God?

6. The Rockies are owned by a fundie

They also try to bring players who have 'christian values' to the team. Some former players have complained about the prayer circles before games, etc. I read an article about this last year and the ownership is really ham-handed in pushing a religious agenda.

That said, many baseball clubs now offer days like this. I had the misfortune of attending a 'Christian Family Day' in Kansas City and was surrounded by people in Jesus wear and subjected to Christian music between innings. I had no idea what I'd walked into; I just thought I had bought a ticket to a baseball game. Silly me.
