Did anyone just see Hillary on CBS Morning News with Harry Smith?
She just said she is opposed to Iraq escalation;she wants more troops to Afghanistan,
she thinks the political discussion will be about experience and accomplishment with those running for President (paraphrasing)

He never asked her about stopping funding

She did say she wants to cap troops at Jan1,2007 levels in Iraq

said Maliki is merely paying lip service to the Americans

4. the funding would require the troop cap in the bill to be passed - and later she
would re-deploy troops soon (from her context, it seemed she demanded Iraq go after the Shia death squads, or else we should re-deploy earlier).

It was the clearest total Iraq/Afghanistan policy statement I've hear - and all done in 120 seconds.

Many on DU will have wanted her to say "out now" or "re-deploy now", and others would view whatever she said as just another "political calculation" (as if that is bad) - all of the prior groups dumping on her - but I was taken how clear and concise and firm she was.

It was her best TV appearance in a awhile.

6. I didn't get to see the interview...
I've been critical of her lately, but I applaud her statements on Iraq that I've read on this thread. A very reasonable plan for Iraq.

I'm sick of the media and the republics saying the Democrats don't have a plan for Iraq.

8. So does she support
sending the 22,000 and if not will she cut funding for it?

12. apparently there was a poll Gallup saying that 70% do not
believe the Dems have a plan, They do have a plan TO GET OUT OF IRAQ. Bush is just provoking a war with Iran, I believe that is why he is sending these troops out there. Bush is a very sick delusional man, but we know that huh?

7. Very elegant Hillary. Supporting Afganistan with troop escalation
but not Iraq.

That a very perfected response, because it shows you are not a "cut and run", you made the distinction of the original intent of this fiasco was to go to Afghanistan only, so you are still in the "war supporter" column, and you appease all by saying you want troops capped in Iraq at Jan 1st 2007 levels.

Which begs the question, what is different from what you voted for and what you just said you would support now, except that the troops would be going to Afghanistan instaed of Iraq.

Nicely played Hillary. Cookie and unending admiration for you for that strong policy statement.

9. I don't want troops in Afghanistan
that place is a total mess too! Capping them at Jan levels still isn't getting them out of therE!

10. Sounds like a plan...
even if some here don't like it, it shoots the hell out of the meme that Democrats don't have a plan.
