Bush should resign from presidency

Bush can say all he wants that "the responsibility rests with me." But in his entire presidency, from Iraq to Hurricane Katrina, responsibility has never led to responsible behavior. Rumsfeld said, "I take full responsibility" for Abu Ghraib and nothing happened to him for years until the Republicans lost the Congress. Wolfowitz never apologized for having the worst math since Westmoreland, and he managed to get promoted to the presidency of the World Bank.

Bush says the responsibility rests with him, but that cannot rest easy with the families here of the soldiers and civilians over there who have died. Even though Bush uttered the word mistake, he made no direct apology to the families of the dead.
That ought to be Bush's final mistake. In his own way, Vietnam-battered President Johnson truly took responsibility and declined to run for reelection. In his own way, Watergate-battered President Nixon took responsibility and resigned. With so much death already on his hands, Bush should not be allowed to continue this aimless war.
The only responsible show of responsibility at this point is resignation. The Republicans need to start deciding who among them is like Ford, with the character and humility to restore the strength of the presidency.
