he could easily win in my state. People here are so duped on the whole a vote against a republican is a vote against Jesus. Plus some state legislators who happen to dems have been indicted for various felonies. The dem party has taken a beating here for the last few years.

I'm guessing Harold Ford Jr. will run on the Dem side. We really don't have a lot of strong Dems right now.

Ford may be a good campaigner, but he's like Lieberman in every other regard. Now I understand this is Tennessee, but you can run someone like Schweitzer, Webb, or Tester, and still win there.

10. Ford doesn't have the experience to be Governor. There are a lot

of issues that have to do with "management" as part of a Governor's role.

Harold Ford's experience is as a legislator. That's a different kind of experience.

Bill Frist's experience (successful experience, that is) is as a heart surgeon.

I don't think Harold Ford would win as a gubernatorial candidate. That would be a needless sacrifice of talent.

US country singer Tim McGraw says he would be interested in running for governor or senator in his adopted home state of Tennessee - and he's getting encouragement from a fellow Democrat, former president Bill Clinton.

"I think he's got it," Clinton says of McGraw in an Esquire magazine story. "The Democrats need candidates whom people can relate to in a personal way, people who understand their lives and their concerns and share their values. And I think that's something Tim can do without even pretending."

But McGraw, 38, told the magazine he has no immediate plans to enter politics.

"Maybe in 10 or 15 years when the music has died down," he said.

The magazine reported that McGraw, who has three young daughters with his wife, singer Faith Hill, was recruited a few years ago to run for the US Senate seat that eventually went to Tennessee Republican Lamar Alexander, but passed because of his children and his singing career.

.... perhaps when he sees Frist run he will change his mind and enter the race sooner rather than later.
