OK, so it's official now. Even Novak is calling the Republics dead meat. That means one thing. The corporations aren't gonna waste much of their money on th Puggies, and they certainly aren't gonna pour the big bux into liberal coffers. There's only one place for it to go. You guessed it. The DLC is about to become wealthy beyond their wildest dreams. It's the only place for the corporate influence-peddlers to go. Suddenly there are going to be so many Dinos running around that you're gonna think you've been shanghaied to the movie set of Jurassic Park.

Now maybe we know the real story behind the Lieberman ascendance and why the Party let him do it. Come 2008, he'll either be the king or the head kingmaker.

1. I guess I don't count my chickens before they hatch and I certainly
don't take Novak's word for everything. I also put more faith in the Democrats who vote in the primaries and caucuses to select our nominee. And I definitely don't think that Lieberman is going to be the kingmaker of the Democratic party--it seems more likely to me he may be on a GOP ticket.

3. Well, I do think there will be a shift away from the Puggies;

suddenly they're pretty toxic, and the bux guys are gonna shift their bets to where they think they can both buy a win and buy influence after the election.

As to Lieberman, that was an afterthought.

2. And when the dems take back the White House in '08,
we will be told to shut the fuck up about election fraud.

4. As long as they don't fuck up another campaign...
You can always tell when DLC advisers take over. A firebrand like Obama gets so bland you can't discern his position on anything. A committed environmentalist like Gore starts to sound like big business is his best friend and it'll be business as usual, all the way. A pit bull prosecutor like Kerry tries to look avuncular and tell jokes while trying to defend votes in the Senate that he's now free to say were mistakes.

None of it works, of course, because only psychopaths can manage to be that fake and if there's one thing the US public can't stand, it's a fake.

Those corporate lobbyists who run campaigns every election season need to stick to their day jobs this time. Our country may depend on it.

7. I think you're mostly right, except for the part where you say
"if there's one thing the US public can't stand, it's a fake." I think it's the blandness, not the fake business, that puts them off. How else explain Bush? Or Ronnie Raygun for that matter. Both of those guys were as phony as a nine-peso Euro. Th DLC will probly win 2008 by default because any Puggy candidate would be DOA.

14. Bush is likely a psychopath, exempted from the standard
and Reagan was a skilled actor. Both were nearly impossible to spot by anyone but Democrats with highly suspicious minds and giant sized BS meters.

Not so the Democratic candidates.

15. Yes, Bush is a psychopath, with strong narcissistic traits.
I'm always amazed, though, at how many people have a totally unwarranted confidence in their ability to assess the sincerity of others. Hervey Cleckley, who wrote the original classic text on psychopathy (The Mask of Sanity), commented that he wasn't always good at spotting psychopaths; his office staff were much better. Whenever someone went into Cleckley's office to be evaluated and walked out having borrowed money from him, the staff knew.

6. If not Lieberman, they will attempt to foist someone they can easily manipulate
or control on us.

Isn't that always the way? The corporate heads have their own version of "the lesser of evils."

8. Yeah. The other Clinton, for example.
The one who got NAFTA and welfare "reform" through, put his pushy wife Whatsername in charge of coming up with a health care plan, and invented don't ask, don't tell.

13. What dupe?
This is about my assessment of the current and upcoming political situation. It's not about Novak. I could as easily have left the Novak reference out of the post. Certainly there are reasons other than Novak's comments to think that the Puggies are in eclipse. I'm talking about what might mean for corporate lobbying behavior.

Piss off.

16. Not all the big bucks are locked up at the DLC....
Not all business concerns support the DLC. A candidate who doesn't have the DLC seal of approval can alternatively curry the support of small and medium business owners or professionals (like engineers, doctors) or wealthy non-DLC philanthropists (lke George Soros, Bill Gates, Warren Buffett).

The DLC is not the end all be all in our party when it comes to money.
