Today in America:
The top Politicans, through the banking, military and Big Oil companies etc, control a great deal of the media. Between a subserviant media, and an election system fraught with implications of control, including voter suprression and an electronic election system fraught with hackable equipment, our country has been governed by thugs resembling Germany's Nightmare Regime.
The latest group of top politicians thought that emulating the Third Reich and re-formatting the media as a propaganda tool of the government would be enough - but it wasn't
Bush-Cheney et al forgot the part about Hitler actually boosting the economy in Germany, getting cars in each (non-Jewish) German's garage, erasing class barriers, and actually winning a significant number of battles for several years. And as for the victories on the battlefield - Hitler promised a new expanded Fatherland to all who participated.
Over the last six years, Bush didn't think it necessary to improve the economy for any but a special class of people (excepting the middle class trades people who have participated in the real estate construction boom)
American class barriers are more intact than ever - as manufacturing jobs, and most union wage level jobs, etc go to the people overseas. The middle class is shrinking and less likely than before than to afford college for their children.
With bush in control, there has been no battle plan <unless as Robert Fisk points out, endlessly driving around Iraq in a HumVee until it is incinerated counts as a battle plan>
We aren't gonna win Iraq - and even if we did - the profits go only to Halliburton - not the American people at large. ALmost all of us here in the US had that point brought home when the gas prices at the pump went through the roof recently (Summer 0f 2006)
Hitler started a war and an ethnic/religious cleansing that took out at least fifty million people.
With the Depleted Uranium (DU) releases going on continually from explosions in Iraq, it is not possible to estimate how many cancer deaths will occur from DU. In Iraq, there will be birth defects as well -and those of our Armed Forces who were exposed to the vaporized DU will bring a host of problems home with them.
It remains to be seen what will happen to the death rate from Bush if we do (as many experts are expecting later this year) a nuclear strike on Iran.
If that action leads to a Third Total World Conflict, it could be a billion or more people.
Now it may be that it takes more than a village of thugs controlling the media, and the election equipment, to keep a free and democratic society down.
But how free and democratic are we?
After all, "Freedom is when the people can speak - democracy is when the government listens" Alastair Farrugia
Just a few short days ago, Condi Rice was over in Israel assuring top officials there that the Admnistration would continue in Iraq and that no Israeli leaders should worry about the minor point that most Americans want out of the war.
