White House and Repub leaders on defensive with non-binding resolution...
In what appears to be the first big battle between the Democrats and George W Bush post election, Bush is scampering to hold his troops together. They do not wish to be hung out to dry like they were just before the last election by Karl Rove and Bush, when they were guaranteed that they would hold on to the House and the Senate. Now, they are asking vulnerable Republicans to trust them just one more time. It's gonna be a hard sell form many of these Republicans - especially those that are up for re-election next year.

WASHINGTON - A Senate resolution opposing
President Bush's war plan on
Iraq put the White House and Republican leaders on the defensive Wednesday as they scurried to prevent a trickle of GOP support for the measure from swelling into a deluge.

Eager to avoid an embarrassing congressional rebuke of the president's new war strategy, the administration seemed to hint that the effort — led chiefly by Democrats — might somehow be of assistance to terrorists. They also herded GOP skeptics to the White House, where they tried to allay the concerns of Republican lawmakers including Sens. John Warner (news, bio, voting record) of Virginia, Sam Brownback (news, bio, voting record) of Kansas, Norm Coleman (news, bio, voting record) of Minnesota and Susan Collins (news, bio, voting record) of Maine.

<snip>
Republicans who attended the White House meetings said they emerged unconvinced more troops were the answer in Iraq, but were unsure whether signing on to the resolution was the answer.

Underscoring the GOP effort to keep its troops in line, many of those same members were invited Wednesday evening to meet behind closed doors with Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (news, bio, voting record), R-Ky., who has threatened to filibuster the measure.

As the White House sought to stave off a major showdown between the administration and Congress on Iraq, GOP members who support Bush's plan drafted rival proposals.

4. BOTTOM LINE, dear Republics;
Edited on Thu Jan-18-07 01:02 AM by LynnTheDem
You remain in office via We the people (the less intelligent ones, but nevertheless); the vast MAJORITY of Americans OPPOSE bush's stupid ignorant idiotic escalation of his illegal war of aggression against the Iraqi people.

Stand with bush the stupid ignorant idiot, and We the people (the aforementioned dimwits who were previously inclined to vote against their own best interests by voting Republic in the first place) will vote your asses out of office.

It's that simple. Hell, even a Republic can understand it.

5. Talk about NOT getting it...
"Eager to avoid an embarrassing congressional rebuke of the president's new war strategy, the administration seemed to hint that the effort — led chiefly by Democrats — might somehow be of assistance to terrorists."

Nobody is buying this load of crap anymore. If these fools continue to cling to this sinking ship, and this bumper sticker policy...they should consider updating their resumes.
