O'Reilly Tries To Get Dennis Miller To Whine About Liberals
O'Reilly Tries To Get Dennis Miller To Whine About Liberals
Reported by Deborah - January 17, 2007 -

Bill O'Reilly interviewed Dennis Miller tonight on The O'Reilly Factor, 1/17/08, and fed him leading questions probably hoping he would start whining about liberals rejecting him.O'Reilly introduced Miller as one of the few non liberal performers claiming he gave an Oscar level performance in Bordello of Blood and opened the interview discussing Miller's conversion from "left wing loon" to Libertarian.

O'Reilly's attempted to paint Miller as a talented actor who has not recieved the recognition he deserves because he's not liberal. His claim that Miller gave an Oscar caliber performance in Bordello of Blood is questionable. In fact, Miller laughed at the notion too. Bordello Of Blood was a selecton from the HBO series Tales From The Crypt and the one review discovered was pretty poor.

O'Reilly wanted to know about Miller's "conversion" and asked if he had lost friends? Miller didn't take the bait claiming his real friends were life long adding a joke about Arnold being a liberal friend.

Then O'Reilly asked if he had lost work. Miller answered that it was hard to tell but launched into a riff about he and Ron Silver being like the characters in Close Encounters making mashed potato mountains while everyone else was clueless. Finally, BOR gave up after a question about " nasty mail" got no response.

1. What a knob
He used to be quite funny. I'm talking WAY back in his "Mr. Miller goes to Washington" days. I also remember his Rants book (first one) making me chuckle while on the shitter, but a serious actor he'll never be. I did enjoy Ron Silver on West Wing. Thought his character was great.

10. An Oscar?? For Bordello of Blood??!!
Please tell me you're paraphrasing. O'Reily did not really say that, did he?

Yeah, Millers' performance in Bordello of Blood ranks right up there with Lawrence Olivia, Omar Sharif, Marlon Brando and George C. Scott?

Dennis Miller was funny, until he started to believe that people actually give a shit about what he thinks.

11. Dennis fell in love with Bush for love AND money
since as a conservative he's now part of a much smaller comic pod....and the competition is considerably less fierce, which makes it easier for a mediocre talent like Miller.
Who's he competing against? Drew Carey? Colin Quinn? No wonder he gets the obligatory conservative gigs to restore "balance."
I think it's a career move on his part fo play the conservative comic. He's always hedging himself, anyway. He doesn't know what he is. He does know he's no Stewart, Colbert, Rock, Robin Williams, D. H. Hughley, David Cross, or any of a number of outspoken and very literate liberals.
A serious actor? Oh, that O'Reilly. Of course O'Reilly is a guy who confused a loofah with a falafel. So, you'd expect him to confuse a Dennis Miller with a Robert DeNiro.
For Miller, this schtick is business. Why not be "the conservative funny guy"?
It's all he has.

Rated 'R': Republicans in Hollywood (2004) (TV)

<snip>

As Hollywood is known as a Democratic bastion, it's always an eye-opener when we learn about which people in Tinseltown are Republicans. In "Rated 'R': Republicans in Hollywood", Jesse Moss interviews some of them and focuses on Arnold Schwarzenegger's run for governor. Sadly, Moss never looks at specific political issues or challenges what some of these people think.

For the most part, it was mostly interesting to see affirmed conservatives (e.g., Drew Carey, John Milius) being civil, as we might assume that they sit around ranting all day. Still, the documentary would have been better if Moss had looked at the issues.

13. I like what one writer said about Dennis
"It's like being stuck with your dad during a cross country jaunt in the car."

BORING.

Sad that he was ONCE a funny guy. Even before Bush he used to tell it like it is, now he tells it like it ISN'T. :)

17. Has Miller lost work?
I couldn't say, either. But I do know that he's the only "entertainer" I ever heard of who had to run an ad in the trade magazines, offering to pay folks to be in the audience for his show.

Next up for Billo: A chimp sidekick, who will immediately be known as the brains of the act.

that movie wasn't so hot at all (any and all feelings towards miller aside) - even for a lower budget horror flick.

21. Who knows how to get the ultimate Miller smackdown?
It occurred on Miller's defunct show by Eric Alterman. Yes, mild-mannered Eric Alterman totally handed Miller his ass...on his own show. It was masterful. Miller, literally, was speechless (!)and put his head down on his desk. Then, went to commercial and to another story.
Alterman waxed him and Miller couldn't respond.
The hot air balloon that is Miller was punctured. And throughout Alterman was calm and cool.
Lovely video if we can find it.

Eric Alterman was on Dennis Miller's CNBC show yesterday. We didn't see it, but Eric has some choice words for Mr. Miller today. Walter at Idols of the Marketplace saw some of it and says:

Eric Alterman couldn't couldn't see the show but I caught about three minute of Miller's juvenile behavior before I had to turn the channel. I actually felt like getting in my car, driving to the studio and punching him out. What's the point of inviting an author on a show to discuss issues and then pretend as if you are bored to death with his every word? Miller's act is just a mask for a man who really has no idea what he is doing and doesn't possess brain enough to realize it.

Update: You can watch the segment here.

Eric writes today that Miller called and apologized to him.

22. Leave it to O'Rielly to use "Oscar Caliber" and "Bordello of Blood" in the same context.
It shows just how fucking clueless this guy is.

Afghanistan was a stunning victory.
Iraq had elections and is becoming America Jr.
Bordello of Blood, Starring Dennis Miller, was an Oscar Caliber movie.
