A friend just called me with a horrible story out of Iraq
The sister of a friend of hers was in Iraq for the National Democractic Institute ( http://www.ndi.org/ ), and yesterday a car she was riding in with a driver and two other people was attacked and blew up and she was killed. She was only 28 years old.

It appears that hardly anything has been reported on the news about this incident, and when it has been reported, they haven't give her age or gender and have only said that the victims were with a think tank of some kind.

Madeline Albright called the murdered girl's sister -- interesting that it was Madeline Albright, and not anyone from the current administration. Says a lot about them, doesn't it.

This is another indication of just how bad things are over there.

3. It was on all the "big three" network news programs last night
Edited on Thu Jan-18-07 01:32 PM by OKNancy
However, at that time, they said they couldn't give the details of the woman since her family had not been notified. One newscast even had an animation of the three cars and what happened to each.

Edit to add: Madeline Albright is the Chairman of the Board for NDI

5. I didn't see any news last night except for the last half of Olbermann
I was at a get-together at Gov. Granholm's residence yesterday afternoon and didn't get home until after 8 p.m. The family has been notified now. I'll be interested to see what kind of coverage this gets. I haven't seen anything about it on line.

13. No, I won't be out there this go-around.
Thanks for asking. Have a great time.

Be sure to eat at AV Ristorante Italiano or the Lebanese Taverna. Or if you prefer Adams Morgan, Montego Bay is a great Jamaican joint.

10. That is horrible. So sorry for your friend.
I was at a baby shower Saturday for a cousin whose husband is working for the same Institute and is supposed to be overseeing an election that keeps getting postponed.

It is a very difficult road to choose and usually a thankless job. I am so sorry - it takes a helluva lot of character to do the job she was doing.

12. I totally agree -- she was very brave to be there
She actually wasn't my friend's sister, but the sister of a friend of hers.

23. Yes it is telling that the administration didn't call
Apparently the National Democratic Institute is mistaken in believing the U.S. is there to promote democracy.
