I think O'Reilly is probably jealous of the demographics of Colbert's viewers. O'Reilly's viewers are a lot older on average. He seems like he is trying to show he's "cool" like he has in the past by making an appearance on The Daily Show and on Letterman. I don't think Bill realizes how big of a flop he was on either of those shows.

Billo is smart enough to know when he's being ridiculed and, rather than go straight on a comedy show, will try one-upping Colbert. (Billo is incredibly egotistical.) Colbert and his staff undoubtedly expect this. (They're even less stupid than Billo.) Thus, Billo will take bait and try being funnt but will come off looking pathetic ... and Colbert will help him to look that way. (Some of it will have been rehearsed. The question will be: How much?)

He needs to go WAY out of his way to give O'Reilly a king's welcome. Constant ass-kissing. Balloons, streamers, dancing girls, trumpets, etc.

More than anything, what O'Reilly wants out of this is a way to "cause a scene" on Colbert's show, and he will attempt to do so. As such, Colbert can not give him the slightest reason for it. He should treat him as if GOD HIMSELF is appearing on his show, with full deference.

Saying that he had even a slight talent or intelligence at his job is like saying Hitler was a better public speaker than Bush. It is not giving him a moral pass, it is simply saying that his communication skills are better than the others graded on a curve.
