Today's Dr. Phil summed up the ridiculousness of the debate over marriage

Today's Dr. Phil featured a woman who married three people who were behind bars. Now don't get me wrong, if some dingbat wants to marry jailbirds then she should be allowed to. But think for a moment of just how ridiculous this makes banning marriage equality. People in jail, who can't have sex, can get married but gays can't because we can't have kids. Wonder why we get a little pissed over this notion, remember one of the Menendez brothers is married today, and gay couples who have been together for decades aren't.

I would not want to be part of any club that would have me as a member. Seriously, marriage has been so devalued, simply give any two consenting adults the right to sign a contract and get all the benefits of partnership, equal to everyone, and let them call it whatever the heck they want to call it.

and by the way, I was dumped by my fiancee last spring because I refused to get married in the US because my sister and her partner cannot. so I walk it to.

I once argued with a guy who insisted that if gays could marry it would make the institution of marriage as cheap as a six-pack of beer. I asked him how much marriage was worth after Britney Spears' two marriages. He didn't say much then. His next argument was the Bible. I asked if the Bible also forbade fornication. He said yes. I then said "maybe you should marry that girlfriend of yours you've been living with for 7 years then. You know, the one you've had three kids with?" He didn't say much at all after that.

8. We had one of those on my college campus

He literally carried a Bible with him to student Senate meetings and lectured us that gays were evil and could be cured. The entire time he was shacked up with some female. We tried to impeach his worthless ass but failed.

7. Stupid people don't like change, which is what makes

stupid people conservative. Extending the right to marry to all consenting adults requires them to change their thinking just a tiny bit, and that's why they will fight it tooth and nail, no matter how silly their rationalizations sound. At the root of all of it is their hatred of change.

Remember, they can barely cope with the world the way it is.

It's why the arguments against same sex marriage are exactly the same as their arguments against mixed religion and then mixed race marriages were.

There are more of us than there are of them and eventually we'll manage to roll right over them.

9. Sounds like the show might be opening up somewhat

I've not bothered watching the show in a while since seeing one of those "reformed homosexual" get overwhelming airtime to express his opinion that homosexuality is a treatable condition. It wasn't that the idea was expressed and given so much airtime, but that they had a guest with a countering perspective and didn't allow him anywhere near the same time to speak to the subject (or even conclude a point). I'm sure many viewers came away from the exchange thinking that being gay is a mental disorder.

Dr. Phil is OK on gay issues it seems but he can be judgemental too. BTW this show didn't have gays on it I was just commenting on the ease with which straights of all sorts can get married.
