I was inspired in this by another post where the thinking was that we needed to wait for better battery technology to have an electric car. All the "but we can't" excuses were present but I insist that they are all stalling tactics so that the Auto industry can continue in their enterprise uninterrupted by progress. And you must recognize that the industry is far greater than a auto plant and dealerships. There are millions of auto parts stores in the country that make there money off the old internal combustion engine So we have to face it they will never change. At least in time to avoid a world tragedy with global warming and the like, so I have a proposal on how to run an end run around this bloated and entrenched industry, and it goes like this'
Form a public corporation of tax payers who can check off how much of there taxes they want to go to stock in the company. This company would be charged with producing an electric car with present off the shelf teck that was simple and reliable and priced so that the poorest of us could afford it It would have 4 traction motors, one one each wheel making it 4by4 with no drive train at all (the same as locomotives and very large trucks now use but scaled way down) and would generate electricity when breaking or going down hill to recapture the energy. It would have the best battery we could come up with NOW and plans and research on how to make it even better. And even though it would only go 100 to 200 miles on a charge a fifth wheel attachment could be offered (with a small gas engine turning a generator) to use if long distances were necessary. But 95% of all driving is less than 100 miles. The first production models would not be fancy with TVs in the head rest and all that crap and priced so that the average worker could dump his old gas guzzler and afford to by it, and in the process save a lot of money on transportation in the processes. Special incentives could be offered to take his old gas guzzler and scrap it.
I know you will say I am a dreamer But I am not the only one Someday I hope you will join us And the world will live as one.
