Chinese anti-satellite test...are we making to much of it...?

I could be way off base here...but isn't it true all they did was launch a rocket with a probe to rendevous with a satellite and ram it...

I mean what is the new technology there...

China has had spacecraft that could achieve orbit and rendevous for many years...

I realize the political implication is probably more important than the actual technology employed...but it seems the reaction is a bit more hysterical than this test would warrant...
