Non Compus Mentis, Non-Binding Resolutions and Supporting the Troops Cindy Sheehan Non Compus Mentis One definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. With Bloody George’s planned escalation of the conflict in Iraq, this is the only way to describe it: Insane. The escalations have been tried before and they have only resulted in more body bags returning home from Iraq and more scenes of devastation from that George-plagued country. The C minus student cum “Educator in Chief” has been going on a media blitz lately to explain to we soft-headed immense majority how his Operation Increasing Cannon Fodder will be good for America and Iraq whose destinies he has so gratuitously and tragically linked. Bloody George is blaming the Iraqi people on his "Killing Spree Tour" for not being “grateful” enough to the Americans. What is wrong with the people of Iraq? From the very early stages of the invasion, hospitals, schools and innocent civilians have been targeted. Their infrastructure is obliterated and hundreds of thousands of civilians are dead. I can’t believe that they are not grateful that someone far worse than Saddam has taken his place! Bloody George the Executioner also pretended to be a little dismayed over the way that Saddam’s execution was “fumbled,” in an interview with Jim Lehrer. Too bad Mr. Lehrer didn’t ask George what a “good” execution would look like, since Bloody George was the champion of executions while he was governor of Texas and if there’s anything he should know about, it’s killing people. One example of Bush’s war of denial and lies is that he told CBS’s 60 Minutes that he was “wrong” but not “dishonest.” The interviewer didn’t follow up in his “hard-hitting” look at BushCo’s war policies with the question: “What about the Downing Street Memos and yellow cake uranium from Niger?” The mainstream media is also waging a propaganda war of denial. Non-Binding Resolutions Binding: creating a legal or moral obligation to do something with no possibility of withdrawal or avoidance. Non: prefix; to negate. A non-binding resolution is just what it says; non-binding. BushCo don’t even feel bound by the Constitution which George calls a “god-damned scrap of paper.” Our Attorney General calls the Geneva Conventions “quaint” while humans are being tortured in prison camps such as Guantanamo. Seeing the writing on the wall, Bloody BushCo has, very belatedly, decided to obey FISA laws, which George also called: old laws. “Thou shalt not murder” is also a very old law that BushCo chooses to shatter with seeming impunity. Many people say that a non-binding resolution is a “step in the right direction.” I say that it is just a way for Congress to say that they are against a troop build up without truly being against a troop build up. The only way to stop this war and stop what becomes more and more an out of control Executive Branch is to slam the bank vault shut. Support our Troops Most Congressional members who say that they are against the war will vote over and over again to give an unfit commander in chief more money to wage the war because they are afraid of being accused of not "supporting the troops." God forbid one of them step up to the plate with some courage and integrity and say what we all know: From sending our troops to fight in a war of aggression which is the “supreme” crime against humanity because it contains all of the crimes; such as: rape, murder, and torture to going to war with the Army “you have,” and when Marine units are going from door to door in civilian areas, kicking in the doors one day, then begging for food the next, nothing about this war has been about supporting the troops. In the name of God, they have been drinking contaminated water that was supposed to be purified by Halliburton who took the money and did not do the job. If we had no troops in Iraq, then they wouldn’t need this hypocritical support that Congress says that they need. The more speedily that they are brought home the less need they have for the armor, food, and clean water that they are not getting anyway. Support our Troops? Or Support our War Racketeers? I would stake everything I own on the fact that if you scratched the surface of each Congressperson’s district who says that they are against the war and the Commander in Chief, but will vote on continued funding, you will find someone who has a financial stake in keeping this occupation healthily funded. Solutions BushCo are fond of saying that all liberals do is complain but they offer no viable solutions. First of all, we, as a nation, will have to face up to the fact that there will be no good solution for Iraq and nothing will make the country look pretty at first. BushCo has screwed up that country for generations to say the least---one thing that recent history has shown us though, is that an escalation will only make things worse. There have been so many Democratic solutions offered to Bush’s problem. They won’t work either. From Hillary’s bill to put a cap on troops to Reps Woolsey, Lee, and Water’s H.R. 508 that was introduced yesterday, we know that Bloody George can put a quick end to those bills with his veto power or a signing statement vowing to disobey the very thing that he has just signed into law. Congress and George in their pas-de-deux of death know something better than you and I: The president is the Commander in Chief. Congress appropriates money. As long as the Commander has money in his coffers, he can do what ever he wants with his GI Joes. The only thing that can stop this war, save Iraqis, and support our troops is to pull the money plug. Giving more money to someone who is “not of sound mind or understanding” is simply crazy in itself. Cindy Sheehan is the mother of Spc. Casey Sheehan who was killed in Bush's war of terror on 04/04/04. She is the co-founder and president of Gold Star Families for Peace and the Camp Casey Peace Institute. She is the author of three books, the most recent is: Peace Mom: A Mother's Journey Through Heartache to Activism.
