Bush's 'global' State of the Union
Posted by Mark Silva at 9:12 am CST

President Bush is rehearsing his State of the Union address today, which will include proposed new initiatives in health care, as he prepares to head to Camp David this weekend with Defense Secretary Robert Gates, returning from his second trip to Iraq, and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, returning from a trip to the Middle East.

The president is not likely to address a lot of the criticism for his new war plan during Tuesday night's televised speech to a joint session of Congress and the nation at 8 pm CST, however, with Bush hoping to deliver more of a "global'' address. He will start talking about his health care plans during Saturday's weekly radio address, and is rehearsing Tuesday night's address today in the family theater at the White House.

Rice and Gates "will be at camp to give him an update'' on their trips, according to Dana Perino, a White House spokeswoman, but there will be no formal National Security Council meeting. Asked why the president is heading to Camp David again, she said: "I think the president is allowed to go to camp tomorrow if he wants.''

2. He's king of the world!
Maybe he'll begin his speech not with "my fellow Americans, the state of the Union ... " but with, "My subjects listening on all continents, the state of the Empire ... "

3. He's spent the equivalent of a year
at Camp David alone...and more than a year at Crawford. This according to the WP. Pity he can't spend all his time hither...with no phone.

4. Didn't Bush get the memo?
Uh, George, you're NOT in charge of the globe. In fact, you're barely holding on to the United States. You are not a Dictator. You are not The Decider. You work for the American people, they don't work for you. Your assignment is temporary, and you WILL go home in 2009.

Um, you may be going home early as well...
