Has Anyone Noticed How Much Evan Bayh Has Been At Hillary's Side Lately?
I just started noticing and wonder what's up with that? Especially as he withdrew from the race. Is he a potential running mate?

5. I don't. He wasn't competition for anyone.
And he didn't have the money.

If he'd declared, he would have been wrapped up and tossed out early. Nobody had to promise him anything to avoid that.

2. Yes, he will be the Al Gore (VP nominee) of 2008.
Bayh is someone whom most Americans will think could take over as President, just like Gore was in 1992.

28. I thought he should have been the Gore VP nom in 2000.
But, alas, Joe was the chosen one. :(

It's wonderful that we're so different from Republicans.

6. Evan will put his nose where ever he has to ...
... he's perfect for Hillary's running mate because he has no working brain cells of his own.

21. Tsk Tsk Tsk You know he has brain cells of his own
Since Susan is married to him he is entitled to call any of her brain cells part of his.

By the way any truth that Bayh may be running for Governor?

30. I hadn't heard that rumor ...
.... I'd imagine it depends on Bart. He's pretty much the only high profile Dem in the state at this point. Aside from "super-toupe" Bauer.

I have noticed that also... Bayh has to play for the cameras and look important... Besides we all know that he is worthless as a whole!

15. Well, he was there because he was ON THE TRIP, too.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16594901/

WASHINGTON - Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and two other lawmakers are headed to Iraq this weekend as Congress engages in fierce debate over President Bush's plan to send 21,500 more troops to salvage the U.S. effort there.

Clinton, a Democrat from New York who is considering running for president, is traveling with Sen. Evan Bayh, D-Ind., who had also eyed the 2008 race but opted out, and Rep. John McHugh, a Republican from upstate New York.

The three, all members of armed services committees, are to meet with top Iraqi officials and U.S. military commanders. The trip also takes them to Afghanistan.

11. Somethings seems to be going on
I've recieved Christmas cards from him with the family picture, for three years running. I'm in Texas and I've never given him a dime, written or e-mailed him. I don't know why the cards, unless he was running.

A few weeks before this Christmas, he had announced he wasn't running and no card. THEN, the day after Christmas, there's suddenly a card, again.

12. Or he wants a cabinet post, or an ambassadorship
Could be any of the three.

We know that the primaries are a beauty contest, and plenty of those who don't make the cut end up as runner up or get the Congeniality prize!

Or maybe he's the guy running her operation in his state...and those positions usually are well rewarded, too.

13. doubt ambassadorship - maybe cabinet
but he sure seems focused on the top - thus covetting the stepping stone VP slot makes sense.

20. Right
At this point it could be anything, and let's face it, she'd have to be elected for any of this to be relevant. It just struck me looking at all the tape of them together that they seemed like a team.

23. As I noted above, though, he was WITH her on that trip to Iraq and the Stan
There was also a GOP rep from NY on that trip as well....so, it was appropriate for him to be seen with her. I don't really know if there's tape of them in other situations, but they are on the same page politically in many respects. For that reason alone, he'd be on several short lists....

He said that if HRC gets the nom, her VP will be Bayh. I fully agree with that.

19. Her VP could well be Obama. Or Bill Richardson. Or Vilsack.
Or Edwards, if she could sell him to take it, and that would be a tough sell.

It's way too soon to tell. And the race hasn't even begun yet. Way too much can happen between now and the convention to predict with any certainty. I'd be willing to wager he's on a short list, but he's not yet a shoo-in.

You have to ask yourself, WHY did he drop out of the running? Did his own OPPO research turn up something that might not fly too well? If that were the case, it would be just as damaging to him in the second slot.

She has her Illinois roots, her NY job, and her Arkansas connections--three states can claim her. Might not be a bad idea to get someone from a western state...just for a bit of balance.

26. I'd Bet He's On A Shortlist
First of all, he's Indiana, which would give her another foothold in the midwest where the "pundits" say she's weak. I've heard many say that right now she is a bi-coastal candidate. He's also very conservative, which could be helpful in picking up pub votes. And, as has been said, he's a fellow DLCer.

18. I thought of that too...I like Bayh
and his early withdrawl from 2008 convinces me this is definitely not going to be 2004 redux.

He's on my shortlist for my fav choice for Edwards' v.p. too :hi: Also, Mark Warner.

Think about this guys, if our top tier choices are Senators, a Governor MUST be on the ticket to win.

Then again, remember Gov's Clinton and Carter came out of nowhere late in the primary seasons in '76 and '92 !

Do you believe in miracles :silly:

from the Bayh family? I don't even live in his state, so no comrendo.

His wife has huge hair. She would fit in well down here in the lone star state.
