though it's worth pointing out that Hitler was 56 when he died - which isn't that old.

9. princess diana wouldn't have changed anything
who would bother to kill a drama queen bulimic by that point, if they wanted to murder her, they would have done it before the embarrassment of the divorce

she was killed in a drunk driving accident and that's too bad but if you or i had had her resources we would have done about a 1,000 times more than she ever did

i think prince charles, odious as he may be in his personal life, has done as much or more for liberal causes than she ever did, i don't know why we're obligated to crap on him for wanting a bit of happiness, it isn't like he was sleeping w. slut after slut, he went to an older woman that he'd been in love w. for a lifetime, why isn't that romantic? because he's got a big nose and she's got a big nose? is that how shallow we are?

17. Princess Diana was making great progress
in ending the scourge of land mines for one thing. That alone was enough to set the military industrial complex after her. She went out and hugged and kissed people with aids at a time when everyone else was treating them like lepers. She was far more than a drama queen.

Charles was an ass who spent his honeymoon and the rest of his marriage mooning around over his paramour, breaking Diana's heart in the process.

And I won't even get into the contradictions over the official story the night Diana died but there are many.

i'm fairly sure she's still alive and no one tried to have her whacked

if i had to marry some stupid-### virgin loser for political reasons when i was in love w. another woman -- a love that turned out to be lifelong and not just puppy love -- i too would be a little moony on my honeymoon

there's 2 sides to every story

most of the time we only hear hers because charles had the misfortune to actually love a woman who wasn't beautiful and this world is only about surface

35. That is right. She took the land mine business to the mat.
She was so vocal about the removal of those weapons. At the time of her death I heard it was the U.S. that was the leading manufacturer of these awful devices. She and Mother Theresa were friends, and shared a love for people.

37. And yet, Jody Williams is still alive...
Jody Williams?? She was just the co-winner of the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize, who was the founding coordinator of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines, which shared the prize with her. ICBL was founded in 1992. I daresay she had quite a bit to do with the progress in ending the scourge of landmines.

"Ms. Jody Williams was recognized, along with the International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL), with the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize for her role as the founding coordinator of the ICBL, which was formally launched by six non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in October of 1992. As its coordinator, Williams oversaw the growth of the ICBL to more than 1,300 NGOs in over eighty-five countries and served as a chief strategist and spokesperson for the campaign. Working in an unprecedented cooperative effort with governments, UN bodies and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the ICBL achieved its goal of an international treaty banning antipersonnel landmines during the diplomatic conference held in Oslo in September 1997."

http://www.icbl.org/

She does say something nice about Diana's two visits to countries where LMs are an issue, in an FAQ about her work linked from the Nobel Prize page:

I think had she lived she might have become an outspoken critic of the war. Given how she was about the issues of AIDS and land mines, I don't think she would have stayed silent for long over the war.

16. allegedly
There was a secret guvmint guy out at the hangar the day before he took off in his small plane, messing with it. Other than that I don't know the sources.

JFK was the 2nd handsomest man on the planet. Maybe third.
His son, John-John was THE handsomest man of the 20th century. And I read that he wanted to go to Hollywood and be a movie star. Now that would have been something! Too bad Jackie wanted him to be a lawyer.

20. I tend to be skeptical of conspiracy theories these days.
Usually, the simplest explanation is the correct one. If there was some huge conspiracy to murder JFK, RFK, JFK, Jr., Princess Diana, etc. it could not be contained. My feeling is that JFK, RFK, MLK,Jr. died because they made a difference. It's the same story with anyone who makes a real difference: they are in danger precisely because of what they do. It only takes one lone nutcase to destroy a visionary.

29. Hey pitohui!
I bet that's a girl DYH Amazon. :) I wonder if my male would be turned on? :)

My green sweetheart is doing very well. He's become a feathered alarm clock and doorbell lately. If I'm not up by 9:30 a.m. he starts yelling. He also yells if someone knocks on the door. :) My downstairs neighbor is a grump, so I'm a bit worried she'll complain. She's got a bad rep with the manager, so I'm not THAT concerned.

Here are a couple of pics:

36. Agreed on all examples... except MLK. Something fishy was going on.
I don't think James Earl Ray was innocent. I think he's a sociopath who hoodwinked the King family into doubting his involvement. But someone wanted Martin King dead and they went to a lot of effort to help put Ray behind that trigger and cover their tracks. It may not have been the government, but it was somebody with money; somebody with enough connections to get things done.

40. Maybe. The thing about most conspiracy theories is...
...we'll probably never know for sure. I think it's probable rich white men wanted King dead, so they had the motive and means to do it. What I have a problem with are these recent theories blaming the Bush family for everything bad that's happened since WWII. :) It's "fun"--interesting?--to entertain such possibilities, but there is no real evidence, just a lot of coincidences.

As for MLK, Jr., it's equally possible Ray was a hate-filled bigot who saw a chance and took it.

24. They were both around my age, born at the very end of the
baby boomers. I think that with every new trend since we 40-somethings were born, a big financial/opportunity roadblock has surfaced. For example, in the early 70's, my parents made a killing on their savings with 15% interest on cd's, but I was going to school with the idea of free love, decrim of pot, etc. I graduated in 1980 & hello, here comes Reagonomics & Just say No Nancy. Oh well, on to college where computer classes were being offered. No, not user-friendly PCs, but PROGRAMMING in BASIC. Lotta help that was - just enough to make me hate computers & miss all the dot-com fun. You get the idea.

What does this have to do with Princess Di and JFK Jr.? Whether natural deaths or not, just another snuffing of ideals & dreams of people who were born on the wrong side of the cusp.

Not to say my life is bad, on the contrary, very few things I would change, but the timing of the opportunities has certainly been challenging. Another example is my husband lost his very good job in environmental engineering about a day after Dubya was sworn in. Downsized.

27. I'll Never Forget The Night Princess Di Died
For months all the news media had been reporting was the Royals and Princess Di.
Like they have done with Michael Jackson, Martha Stewart, The guy who hacked his preggers wife into
pieces and tossed her in the bay:

The Distraction Du Jour
Ya know?

So my wife at the time and I were getting in bed
and I heard Princess Di's name on the TV.

And I said:

"Princess Di again. Why doesn't she live up to her name and just die."

And, this time, she had
