The new definition of hypocrisy
Denouncing Bush for saying things like "Things would be easier if I were a dictator" and denouncing him for generally acting like a dictator by having Congress and the Judicial branch pass laws and uphold laws that all but give him absolute power...

And then applauding Chavez for becoming a dictator in virtually the same way.

Hypocrisy isn't just a sin of the Right boys and girls. :eyes:

1. Precisely ...

I gave Chavez the benefit of the doubt until this development. No amount of rationalization will make me believe ruling by decree is ever a good thing, no matter what the actual intent may be.

2. Definitely Hypocrisy At Its Finest. Also Sheer Stupidity, And Blindness, And Narrow Mindedness,
and lack of critical thinking.

The last thing that is would be something worthy of applause.

Some folk just refuse to get it, and will hold on to their rah rah positions at all costs.

Looks really silly to the rest of us though.

3. I love Chavez's anti-Bush rhetoric and some policies, but concentration of power is always troubling
Good point.

4. The sad reality of "groupthink" on DU
There are individuals that can do no wrong:
Chavez, Sheehan, Carter and others.

And there are others than can do no right:
Lieberman, H. Clinton, the DLC..

Any post that praises Chavez and Sheehan will immediately get 72 nominations for the greatest page, while posts that point out that Chavez and Sheehan and Carter are nothing but publicity hungry individuals - will send the alert buttons in a tizzy and, I suppose, by now, the poster will be blocked on future threads.

5. Democracy in action. The people elected Chavez and the congress.
Proclaiming oneself a lover of democracy then decrying the results of democracy is hypocrisy.

7. Ruling By Decree Has Nothing To Do With Democracy.
It has all to do with a power hungry jackass.

9. Name a democratic country where executive orders are never used

Explain why executive orders in Venezuela are somehow different.

12. Oh That's Such A Silly Statement. Cute Though.
I find it cute that if someone offers the opinion that Chavez's move to rule by decree for 18 months makes him a piece of shit (which he is), that they in return would get a response like "take it up with the democratically elected blah blah blah blah blah"

Really cute

Instead of some meaningless reply that does nothing for your cause, how about providing some substance as to just HOW ruling by decree for 18 months is a healthy thing for democracy.

Actually you don't have to. We all already know full well that an order of ruling by decree for 18 months makes him an utter piece of power hungry garbage of which should not be trusted or praised.

This put him fully over the top in my opinion. I officially now think he is literally just another power hungry complete piece of utter garbage, who can go fuck himself with such an order. What a jackass he is.

But I understand that you feel differently. More power to ya. But his order is a dangerous and pathetic one nonetheless.

13. Actually, I agree with you.
As an Anarchist, I'm not fond of anyone, or any group, having power, however they achieve it. Democratically or by brute force.

I hold to the quaint idea that "leaders" should have as little power as possible and be of service to the people, not the other way around.

See my tagline for further explanation.

8. I too agree but, let's face it, everythingsxen...
It speaks volumes of how low we've sunken when we're envious of tin-horn dictators. I mean, America's never been perfect but come on! It's incredible how this White House has turned our society topsy-turvy.

Who would've IMAGINED (another example) the idea of Americans defecting?

I think what's happening is that we're in the grip of a much-larger-picture hypocrisy.
