Are there any Republicans that don't make you gag?

I just watched Gingrich on Fox. Of course, I don't believe in
what he believes - but - I think he is a Republican who actually
thinks about things from both sides. He had high praise for
Pelosi and Rahm (formidable, remarkable 2006 win). He said the
Pelosi picture with her grandchildren was charming. He also said
that the Clinton's were the most intelligent political pair in
politics today.

You can listen to him without gagging, unlike for me Condi, Tony Snow,
Bill Kristol, Cheney, Frist, for example.

Not ideal, but not bad either...

I prefer some of my repub coworkers. Half are sleaze (the under-40 ones), the other half (41-60) are a different sort. A better one IMHO.

He made the corruption of Tom DeLay and the K Street Project possible. He's very dangerous, partly because he doesn't drool and froth like the more obvious ones. But he's very bad news.

Any decent Republican are pretty disgusted with their party. One comes to mind. Ex Mich gov. Bill Milliken. He seems pretty much given up on the party. Maybe not perfect but WIlliam Cohen. ( he is Unitarian!.) Still, as a Sen., Cohen rarely voted against unnecessary defense appropriations. But, socially tolerant. The number of Repukes who are socially tolerant you can count on one hand. How about the repug senator from Oregon. Does not matter, if they sign the No tax pledge of Grover Norquist, they are out to undermine the United States , no matter how socially tolerant.

If not for their politics, he and Big Dog might have been separated at birth. Both came from nothing and are smart and well-spoken and well-educated, and have a fondness for women (and vice-versa). But Clinton NEVER lectures others on personal failings, and would also never use an opponent's personal life as a political football. He is also a deeply caring person, whereas Newt is a cold-hearted bastard.

Sorry to be such a downer, but it is a TERRIBLE strategic mistake to write off an entire party. Do YOU agree with any of the ones mentioned here--maybe not. Do YOU agree with EVERY Dem you can think of? I'll bet you don't. I know I sure as hell don't.

I think one of the biggest mistakes that both parties make is that they count on voters to simply vote for the party affiliation rather than the actual opinions and positions the candidates hold. I don't vote strictly for Dems, I vote for the ideals and attitudes they (and by extension) the Dem party put forth.

99.9% of the time in national politics I'm gonna vote for a Dem because they are closer to my attitudes on issues that I deem important (like Choice and Civil Liberties and the role the government should play in our daily lives.) I'm not voting for a Dem because of the PARTY they belong to, I'm voting Dem because those candidates and the party as a whole have expressed ideas I agree with.

One a local level, I will also say that the line between the two parties gets pretty blurry sometimes. My local Dem party has been over run by some very real wingnuts, and as a result they have done a LOT of really stupid stuff. Currently, if I'm voting based only on shared ideals I'm probably NOT looking at the local Dems 100% of the time--particularly in Labor related issues.

I know several local Republicans that I get along with quite well, and they are people that are holding office because they have a desire to make a difference. I don't think that makes me a Republican. It makes me a person who ALSO holds office to try and do something positive for our community. Sometimes that shared desire means we work together, sometimes we don't. When we disagree it is done with respect and discussion.

In the ideal setting, political parties really are only about a difference in vision in the role the government plays in our day to day lives. Locally, I see that in action, and I honestly think that until we start to take that attitude and expectation national we are going to continue to see this continual bickering and stalling that has been epidemic for the last 20 years.
